Got call back from Autism Solution Ctr

Wed, 11-15-2006 - 11:50am

I called a local place called the Autism Solution Center to ask about their Support Group meeting that meets the 3rd Saturday of each month.

A lady called me back today, and she was really nice (and very talkative). She has a 12yo Aspie dd and a 6yo with Autism--she said "severe", I think.

So I'm going to take the plunge and go meet with a bunch of strangers Saturday night.

The speaker is a neuropsych talking about music therapy or something like that.

I'm *very* uncomfortable and quiet around complete strangers, so send me some outgoing, friendly vibes please. I want to find some AS kids to play with Henry.

The lady that called also told me that she has Asperger's.

The place also offers a weekly Bible study for moms. I might like that.

Robin,

Wow!! Sounds great!! Good luck on Saturday! I'm pretty quiet myself, so being around strangers can be a bit uncomfortable and draining for me! I'm much better now than I used to be, but it can still be difficult at times.

Hope Henry finds some playmates!

Hi, I went to an Aspergers Support group put on by our local Autism Chapter for about a year.I was nervous @ 1st but I found it welcoming & informational. They had new speakers every week & a library of books you could check out to gather more info. Renee also attends this group but I haven't been in awhile because of the time it meets, traffic & working. You meet parents of kids who are worse off than yours & also kids functioning higher. Adults were the only ones allowed to attend when I went. Every parent has their own story. Some parents never talk, other do all the talking :-( Anyway good luck to you attending your group. I hope it works out & you get support from it. Take Care~ Mary Ann

Glad it worked out. Sending loads of positive vibes out to you! Hoping it will work out great and even if you don't find other aspie friends for Henry it would be great to find some freinds and support for yourself.

Thanks for the support.

And just fyi--I'm leaving Henry (and Mark) home with Glen. I'm just hoping to meet other parents of children with AS so that I can arrange playdates and stuff. They have childcare available if needed, though.

Good luck Robin! I'm not a very social person myself but I have found my local support group to be a very comfortable place to go. We meet once a month and spend an hour to an hour and a half just sharing experiences and resources with each other (found son's music therapist and hippotherapy there). The second hour is generally some "expert" discussing different topics.
