Got a cold and kids are driving me crazy

Hi everyone:

I just want to say one thing. You know how whenever you read/hear about the common cold, people always say that if you have a cold you should get some REST? Well, I'm just feeling really irritated about that dumb piece of advice. Who are these people who get to rest when they have a cold? It's not like laundry suddenly stops getting dirty, kids stop spilling drinks and fighting over toys, and the refrigerator magically replaces the moldy leftovers with fresh, yummy food.

We've had cup-a-noodles two days in a row for dinner, because I'm too worn out to make dinner. (Also, Nathan goes into a tantrum if I prepare something that smells vaguely like a proper meal. "WHAT'S THAT STINKY SMELL???")

It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have the world's most irritating children. Okay, that's not fair. I can think of more irritating children, and at least mine are cute. LOL! But we are heavily into the bang-bang shoot 'em up, poopy butt phase of little boy-dom. In fact, with my kids, they go a step further. Big brother has learned about the f-word AND the phrase "nuclear bomb", so those are both phrases that come up often in play. David doesn't say the word, but he did spell it to Nathan (who is bright enough to figure it out), who now uses every opportunity to "almost" say it. And David knows how much Nathan loves anything to do with destruction, so in order to engage him, he says things like, "what if a policeman threw a nuclear bomb at a bank robber's crotch!"

I swear, I'm just so fed up with this stuff. They are pretty oblivious to my complaints, and if I make too big of a deal about stuff they say, it gets worse.

I'd write "Calgon, take me away" only who has time for a bath? Besides, our bathtub is uncomfortable, and the housekeeping fairy hasn't done anything about that mildew. LOL!

But I will go make myself a nice cup of tea. Oh, and I guess I said more that "one thing". Oh well!

Thanks for listenin....ah...ah...ah...CHOO!

((HUGS)) to you Evelyn! I've been there not so long ago - actually right around New Years Eve. Winter break was horrible over here....I had a major cold that was kicking my butt, 7 yr old AS son was bouncing off the walls twitching and stimming like crazy as he watched the Polar Express at least 4 times a day (trains are his obsession), 17 month old getting into everything especially the tree (even though there is a baby gate around it to protect it - yeah right)...etc so forth.

One of our remodel projects for this year is the bathroom....disgusting....I won't even describe it's current condition....let's just say no one lounges in the tub here...LOL!

I also hear on almost a daily basis "What smells horrible?"....my response is "your dinner."

Oh yeah....I share the joy!

Hang in there....

Hi Evelyn,

I'm sorry about the cold!

Forgive me for butting in on the pity party, but I have my own goin' on. Let's see: Jack (age 4.5 and PDD-NOS) has been home from school for about 2 weeks. We had vacation, followed by a SNOW DAY, followed by a late start b/c of snow. And today he is sick! I will never be able to play tennis again, I'm about to miss my 3rd lesson in a row.

But he's not my only guest at the party. Let's not forget 23-month old Claire, aka Destructo Baby. When I am not cleaning up her brother's puke I am wiping up the ENTIRE jumbo bottle of dishwasher rinse aid that she dumped on the floor and then tracked around the house. She also enjoys dumping full cups of water and using markers all over the place.

Hang in there.

Evelyn,
I have a bad cold too right now and I never get sick. Of course DH is also sick and you would think he was dying or something. If my temp is 102 degrees, his is 103!He's driving me nuts!

I feel your pain. When I'm sick, I keep thinking how come I can't be the one being tucked into bed and told to "just rest" so I can feel better. Like you said, the laundry pile keeps growing, the dishes keep piling up and for some reason, my family still wants to eat too! LOL Anyway, we had one of those crazy nights last night. My completely healthy nine yr old woke up with a stomach ache at 11 pm. We gave her some pepto and when she felt better, we tucked her back into bed. I think it was the revenge of the chili mac she had for her school lunch. I love it that they can serve chili mac for lunch, but I can only send her "healthy" snacks for recess time...but that's a whole other story. Anyway, when my hubby and I checked on Lily, we discovered that she was a little too close to the edge of her bed. So, when my dh tried to scoot her over, he was surprised to find that she had vomited all over herself and had gone right on sleeping. She was not very happy with us when she had to be given a bath at almost midnight. She was sleeping quite peacefully and wasn't the least bit concerned about the vomit she was sleeping in. YUCK! Anyway, they were both okay this morning, but it sure was a crazy night. I hope you feel better soon and that you can get some "rest". LOL Try and take care of yourself.
