Did anyone here get their child tested for fragil x?
We did Adam's blood test last week. I called in today for the results and they won't be back for 3 more weeks????
Something like the test takes 2 weeks to conduct in lab and it took a week to reach the lab out of state.

My child isn't even 3 yet and it was painful for me and his dad putting him through it.
NOW I still have mental anguish!

Second question:

After your child was diagnosed, we're you hesitant on have another child for fear of this happening all over again.
I want another baby and my DH is scared to death! He'll do it for me though and after we get the blood test back (it'll be negative I'm sure) for fragil x I need to make my decision if Adam is gonna be our only child. (I sad if it happens that way)
Heck I'd love to adopt, I just want someone for my child to grow up with.

No testing for Fragile X here, but Malcolm's autism wasn't very obvious as such when younger. He did have an MRI, but it was normal.

We are not having a second child. I do wish we had done it right away. There is no history of an autism in either sides of family, still a surprise, but now I am glad we didn't take a chance. We are just barely coping so much of the time!!! Well --- Except for the fact that Malcolm thinks we have ruined his life by not giving him a sibling LOL.

Katherine, we still talk about adopting a second child thourgh foster care, maybe not older, but close in age to Malcolm --- who will 9 yours old end of next week. So, if you do it, tell me all!!!

BTW, to original poster, boy, I am with Paula on the counseling for your dh. And if he isn't interested for himself, I sure would recommend some couple sessions. This is big, heavy, difficult stuff. And our marriages, raising ASD kids, are always under extra pressure cooker guns anyways...

Yours,

Son's doc suggested that maybe down the line she would test for fragile x but we've never done it.

As for more kids......Vaughn (my aspie) was from my previous marriage - so new hubbie and I wanted one or two more kiddos.....I have a 6 year gap between my boys (there was a miscarriage in there too). We had Jack before Vaughn's diagnosis. Shortly after Vaughn's diagnosis we decided that two boys was it......I'm 38 and financially it would be difficult to swing another baby - especially if we were to discover that Jack or the new one were on the spectrum.

I just started to give away some of Jack's infant stuff.....kinda sad. If we won the lottery maybe we'd consider another one......rather impossible since we don't play the lottery.

my two pennies.....
