so I've been getting this color coded report of Graham's day for months now. Today was all reds. What I haven't realized until now is that yellow/red is given for anything ranging from was not on task/flaking out to having meltdowns due to frustration/anxiety to being belligerent and disrepectful to others .
Today was entirely red due to him being unavailable for learning/flaking out the entire day. I hadn't realized but DH's overnight trip out of town was setting him off and messed up his entire day. When he came home with his tail between his legs for getting an all red day he still couldn't articulate to me what had happened that day to warrent all reds. It wasn't until I listened to the voicemail that I got the story.
Am I off base for thinking that giving a kid a negative consequence for having a bad day because his Dad is out of town is a little much? The poor kid couldn't even express to me why he had such a bad day. He had no idea. He was almost as clueless as I was as to what was going on. Aspie's not only don't recognize emotions in others they don't recognize their own!
Sheesh! Poor guy must be mystified about his own behavior rating system. Good thing we're going into an IEP soon - he's going to get a full time aide, finally. Time to reset the behavior expectations a little I think.

Ya know, even before I knew my boys dx I never punished them at home for having a bad day.
