Son received his first report card this week. It was great! He needs to find his voice in writing. In reports he parrots back what he has read. I tried to explain that to him that in his reports he gives back only the bones of the story without any of the meat. I don't think he understood that explaination, so anyone have any other ways to explain that he must add detail and color to his writing? Thanks

Whooo hoo on the great report card! That is wonderful!

For the writing is he using graphic organizers? Our visual kids are helped by these. I have been using a mind mapping technique. It is similar to using something like the computer program "Inspiration". You may be able to download a free trial of that to see if it may work for him. It is pretty pricey (like $70) but most schools do have it available in the school.

Check into assistive technology assessment as well. However, even without he may be able to access inspiration or something similar though his IEP in what we call the "special Factors" section (not sure if that is the same in all states. That is where we list any special supports or accomodations here in Cali)

Thanks for the info. I will look into it at school & see if we can find something to use over the break.
