Had IEP Meeting

Well I think the meeting went really well. This IEP meeting is for his transition to 3rd grade and a different school....which means a whole new IEP team for me as well. I think we have some really good accommodations put into place for Vaughn for next year. We'll see.
Vaughn's guidance counselor shared with the group a cute thing he said the other day during his "friendship group" (social skills group that she created for him).....they were celebrating his birthday - Tom (one of the other little guys in the group) and Mrs. A have the same birthday, she told them that their zodiac sign was Gemini.....she asked Vaughn if he know what sign he was and he said, "I'm Aspergers Syndrome"
Made me laugh.....

OMG, that's sooo cute. I love it! Glad to hear the meeting went well.

Good news on the IEP. Cute story too. Did the new team come to the meeting? How do you like the new team or casemanager?
Renee
The following were at the meeting:
Old Team:
*son's teacher
*schools intervention specialist (case manager)
*guidance counselor
*Learning Resource Coordinator (for current school K-2nd)
*son's therapist (my guest)
*behavior intervention specialists (my guest - from the county - she is doing his FBA)
*Director of Special Services (this is the top dog - over the whole school district)
New Team:
*Learning Resource Coordinator (for next school 3-5th)
*Principal (his current principal was at another IEP meeting)
*a 3rd grade teacher (not necessarily his teacher - assignments have not been yet)
My feelings about the new team......hhhmmmmmm......I think the new LRC is 200x brighter then the current one......I personally like the current LRC but she is not really knowledgable IMO. The new one seems pretty darn sharp....let's hope. The new principal seemed nice enough.....offering me an open invitation to bring my son to the new school as many times as I want during the summer to help him get acclimated (tour the rooms, play in the playground, etc.). I've heard good and bad about him.....we'll see. As far as the teacher representative......I hope Vaughn is in someone elses classroom.....she seems nice but she just did not seem to "get" what everyone was telling her about Vaughn.
The one comforting fact is that the behavior intervention specialist who is doing my son's FBA will be going to the new school with him. She will actually train his new teacher on how to teach my son. She is AMAZING.....there is actually someone in the world who actually understands my son and his learning style.....I cannot say enough good things about her. Someone at the meeting asked her how long she will be with Vaughn.....she said if he needs me in the 12th grade....I'll still be with him.
