My Son Adam is going into the 4th grade next year -- is dx with PDD-Nos (more aspergers) -- anyway, his teacher for the Fall I have known for a few years. Her son is also dx with PDD-Nos -- we were on the fence for awhile wondering if she would the right person to take on Adam. Our thought process was she would be caring for my son for 6 or more hours per day and then have to go home to it as well. After a lot of soul searching we came to the conculsion that she is the right person for the job and let me tell you, she can't wait. I got an e-mail from her yesterday and wants me to have Adam come to the classroom in August and help her set it up. She will modify the room to exactly what he wants. Keep in mind this is a regular classroom setting with 15 to 17 other kids that are on the typical spectrum. How cool is that? My kid will have a direct say in what makes him most comfortable. He can't wait. We are also having the teacher and her son come out to the house for a visit and swim. I really want to see her son and my son interact together. Adam knows he is autistic too and understands what autism is. Should be an interesting meeting.
We are very fortunate to have a good school district that helps us out -- I hand picked the teachers and have every say in what my son does. I guess I am lucky.
Okay, just needed to share.
Oh, BTW, my son created a power point presentation on Autism with his consultant teacher -- haven't seen it yet, but look forward to seeing what comes out of his mind.
Thanks for listening!
