Have you tried any natural supplements?

Or detoxifying the home? How has it helped your child's symptoms? I haven't moved to supplements for Tanner yet, but we recently removed most chemicals from our home. It IS making a difference. He's sleeping better, and he's been less anxious all month. I'm keeping my fingers crossed as the Dr's say as he hits puberty he'll probably need anti-anxiety/anti-psychotics (he currently has intrusive thoughts). Anyway if you have any experience with this or natural chelation therapies/supplements I'd be interested in your story.

Hi Laura,
We do supplements, enzymes, and low frequent dose oral chelation Andy Cutler's method. You can learn about it in the files section of the autism-mercury yahoo group. We don't chelate regularly but when we do we always feel it helps and are glad we did. We also get outside reports from people, usually the school, who have no idea we are doing any of this, that they see improvements. The most dramatic example was when we first started chelation over the summer the following fall the principal said ds was like a different kid, he'd come out of his fog. He kept repeating Wow, he's doing so great, he's like a different kid. We were also doing physical/occupaitonal therapy and theraputic listening at the same time which I also highly reccomend and if anyone wants to attibute the gains to that its fine with me ;). So with supplements & chelation we notice a big change in his ability to focus, and his awareness of the environment and other people. We saw a big social growth with doing antiviral therapy. We just finished a round of chelation this weekend and we saw improved processing speed!!! I'm especially happy about that and pray it sticks. We would notice with math especially that it would take him a long time to pull out the answer. It was in his brain but it would take so long for him to spit it out it was painful to do math with him. Sunday I was doing his math homework with him and he was able to retrieve the answers so quickly dh & were very happy and impressed. Anyway, dh & I think it helps, my family all think it helps. Do I think its a cure? Probably not. Who knows though, maybe if I were more consistent.... But he's happier and healthier and that's enough for me.

We have removed chemicals from home as well. We do a low sugar organic/natural diet (well as much as I can afford these days but I am still pretty crunchy). and we have done supplements as well. I have found Omega 3, probiotics and enzymes to be the most helpful.
It has helped us alot too. As I posted in Amy Ann's thread, I nearly had to hospitalize my son 3 years ago and that is when we made this big change. I also took him off all meds at the time and it really has helped loads along with a supportive school environment.
Last spring he had a set back but it was a fluke I still haven't figured out. This fall we tried more mainstreaming and as such tried meds again and it was another failure and all the christmas junk food really sent him into a tailspin.
So here we are back on the diet, cutting back on mainstream stressors, and off meds and he seems to be doing better again.
