He made eye contact!!!!

CJ (9, AS) got home from school today and we sat on the sofa to talk about the day. As we were chatting, just out of the blue, he held my gaze for about 20-25 seconds!

Everything was calm, we were just casually talking. He hasn't looked me in the eyes in years!

It is amazing how beautiful his eyes are when he is totally engaged in the conversation. Dark stormy blue with yellow flecks. Just like my father's eyes.

It was the most perfect moment.

I am so thrilled I could almost cry.

We have eliminated all dairy from his diet. Maybe that small thing is helping? Please God, let this help.

Oh, Crystal, I am almost in tears reading your post! How wonderful for you! What a special mother's day gift (even a day late!)

Hi Crystal,

Yes, the removal of milk can actually mean a child will be calmer, happier and better connected. We have had Malcolm off (almost) all milk products for many years, and now when he MUST have pizza, we give him the digestive enzymes. We don't notice huge changes if he has a little every once in awhile, but when injesting lots of dairy, our boy gets obviously more distractable and irritable. And he has a friend that really gets wild and out there on wheat and milk.

So, I do believe such a small thing can produce quite noticeable changes in some children.

I'm very happy for you both!

yours,

Sara

Crystal,

How amazing for you! I am psyched on your behalf, and I know most moms just wouldn't understand why this is so huge. ("He looked at you. So?") But OMG *we* know. I don't know how you stayed calm! I know you had to and were probably bursting! Those moments can be a bit hairy...

I agree with Sara, Dairy milk could easily make the difference between that "off in the distance" stare: and those full-on baby blues.

S'funnny: Peter has my Da's eyes. It's quite disconcerting sometimes because many of his expressions are the same, -even though they never met (My Da passed when I was pg with Peter), but it's kind of comforting to see Da echoed in my son's eyes.

Wow chrystal that is fabulous! Don't you just love those moments. Over the past couple days Mike has been more connected and having conversations. it is a beautiful thing to hear what is going on inside his head rather than hearing some movie or TV line.

Crystal,
It's so nice you got to experience that moment. I think because they happen so infrequently we moms cherish them more.
