hearing test

Hi all,
I think I'm going to give up bringing Ella to the doctor because every time I go I come out with a new problem or possible diagnosis. I took her for her 2 year old well appoinment and she's doing really wellin her development. She did the autism screen and she passed. They offered a hearing test which she hasn't had since the one they did at birth so I decided to do it. Well she past the right ear no problem but 3 different people tried the left ear and each time she failed it. The ped said those famous words"Let's wait and see". I had called E.I because her speech is unclear to strangers and although she speaks in sentences she's making a lot of substituions. At birth it took 4-5 tries to pass her left ear but they told me this was normal because they can get "stuff" in there during birth. I am more confused than ever about what exactly is going on with her. So far it's been suggested that she may have had erb's palsey because of weakness on her left side. Next came a stroke, sensory processing disorder and now possible hearing loss. I swear I'm going to go nuts if someone dosen't stand up and give me some answers soon.

Paula,
I really don't know what to do because a part of me things it was a false result but another part of me thinks it could explain a lot of her sensory issues etc. There is no family history of hearing problems except for my niece who had many ear infections and the doc thought it was due to that. Jakes therapist thinks that she could in actual fact have had erbs palsy and had a hearing problem related to that. I'm so confused because I think if she did have a hearing problem I would have noticed it before this and the only thing I ever did notice was that as an infant she didn't startle to loud noises and sometimes she had a hard time tracking sound. ARRRGHHH!

It is all so frustrating and I hope you get to the bottom of it. I know we have gotten a variety of "oppinions" from folks on what could be causeing our challenges/delays here. I just wish someone could give an definitive answer so we could know how to help. Mostly that has been the thing with Dave.

I have even once been told it could be some sort of metabolic disorder or chromosome thing(due to some weird EEG results Dave had) but they couldn't figure out if it was or which one it could be.

Even though I know the oldest 2 have ASD it is a matter of what is the catalyst to know how to best help some of the symptoms. Education and therapy help but there are other symptoms it would really be nice to fix for the kids and it feels like we can't do that because we don't know what is causing those symptoms or which thing will help for my kids brand of ASD. Like Mike's anxiety or auditory processing problems or Cait's seizures.

I hope you are on the road to some answers.

Hearing loss could be due to so many things: I don't think a family history is indicitave. The fact that it is her left ear, and she has problems on the left-hand-side of her whole self, has me strongly thinking you should get to the bottom of it.

You wouldn't necessarily 'know' if her hearing is off, either. She doesn't know, because she doesn't know any different, and she probably compensates well. I was floored when they told me how short-sighted Peter was.
