HELP Needed ASAP

OK, my almost 5 year old figured out how to unclip his seatbelt. Then he refused to put it back on. What can I do? He's 50# so I'm not sure putting him back into a 5point harness is going to work. I looked and they don't seem to have anything that goes over the clip to block little fingers. Anyone run into this problem? Any suggestions?

Hi Valerie!
I found this product called AngelGuard. I haven't researched it yet as far as reviews, but give it a look! It seems to be what you are looking for. Nick is 5, 50 lbs and quickly outgrowing his Marathon so we will likely be in the same boat as you soon.

You might also take one of those velcro sports arm braces, the smaller ones and tightly wrap it around the buckle. He would have to pull the velcro apart to get at the buckle and at least you would hear that he was doing it. I wasn't able to find anything else quick, but I will look later on. Hope that helps!

Dave was about that size (he was very large boy) and still undoing his buckles. I did put him back in the 5 pt harness and I had to get one that secured into the car without a seatbelt and locks behind the seat. He would even undo the buckle holding the seat to the car so there he was flopping around the car in his car seat. UGH!

I think there are car seats that are rated to 70lbs or more. I realize that it is typically only for kids up to 40 with the 5pt restraints and then they go back to the regular belt but I think putting them in a slightly small 5pt restraint is way safer than having them lose in the car.

Dave is like 130th percentile so was in the 50s at 4. I think he was probably 50-55 when I finally was able to switch him to a belt. Even up to this last year we were still having difficulties with that but he understands consequences much better now.

Thank you all for your help, it has been great!

I really like the angel guard idea, but couldn't find a way to order it. As for the 5pt harness in the car seat, I may try that this weekend. Matt is 95% for height and weight so he's not thin, but might be slender enough to still fit for awhile. they still use them on the special bus at school and it works fine. and i will have to use those PITA clips instead of the seatbelt in the car.

gee, you think things will get easier as they get older-but you just trade in one problem for another.

thanks and more ideas still welcome! valerie

btw..matty is saying things like no, uhoh, ah ha, uh uh uh and animal sounds now. when he graduated preschool, he stayed in circle and did songs with his class. then he walked across the graduation bridge, stopped at the top--smiled real big and stretched up tall. these were such accomplishments :)

Valerie,

Here's the website to order the Angel Guard. http://www.theangelguard.com/

Looks like something many of us could use with our little escape artists.

Val,

I didn't have much input on the carseat thing, but I am delighted to hear about Matty's progress and graduation!

Thanks for that great news. It brightened up my
