Henry and his jacket

Henry has a great deal of trouble putting his jacket on by himself. His kindergarten teacher mentioned it to me last year, and we worked on it a bit. She said that it wasn't a big deal in kindergarten, but the other kids would notice in 1st grade.
He usually wears a jersey-knit zipper hooded jacket to school, and I knew that he usually kept it on all day. I didn't think much of it, because when I was in school, I wore my jacket all the time. I was always chilly.
Well, it's been colder than usual this week, so I got out Henry's coat. I didn't think anything of it yesterday, but this morning I told Henry that he could take off his coat when he got to school, so he wouldn't be hot. He looked all panicked and said, "But I don't know how to put it back on!" Poor little guy.
I guess we'll be working on that some more the next few days. Last year, by the time he mastered putting on his own jacket, the warm weather was back and he didn't need to know.
p.s. I posted the finished card for The Birthday Show on Sprout down under the Off Topic heading if anyone wanted to see it.

oh! that's hard! I know that last year when Weston finally learned to tie his shoes (at age 9 1/2) he was so proud, but w/i a few weeks it was summer and he wore only sandals until school started again, then he'd forgotten how to tie his shoes.

Someone taught us this trick for putting on a coat. It didn't work for all my kids, so I don't know whether it'll help you or not. Instead of holding the jacket right-side up and putting in one hand at a time, hold the jacket upside down (or lay it upside down). Put both hands it, then pull it up over your head, so it slides down over your back right-side up. Does that make sense? If they can figure out how to lay the jacket down correctly, it's quite easy to put it on.
Although my 12 & 8yo have mastered jackets, they're still working on shoe tying!
