Henry's Tiger Cub Scout space derby is tomorrow. We finally caught him in a cooperative moment and got him to paint the rocket yesterday. We gave him the paints and let him do it how he wanted. You have *got* to see how he painted it.

He has made it very clear that he does *not* want to go tomorrow, so I guess we'll see on that issue.

Hey I like that! Very cool rocket!

Ryan (7, As) is also a Tiger cub. Do you know what they do with the rocket? Do they launch it or something? I guess we will do this in our pack at some point, and I wanted to know what to expect.

Did Henry say why he didn't want to go to the derby?

We had the Raingutter regatta at our pack a few weeks ago. I wish I had know a little about it before hand to explain to Ryan first. Before the regatta, the pack leader cautioned every cub scout to not get too close too the rain gutter, because you could tip it over and get yourself all wet. There was only 1 cub scout who did that, guess who? You got it, my ds. lol

The rocket has a propellor, and you somehow make it go with a rubber band.

Henry doesn't want to go, because he never wants to do *anything*.

His fairly new obsession is watching Noggin and checking the DirecTV guide. (We just got DirecTV a couple weeks ago.)

He is afraid if we leave the house that the guide won't match what actually comes on Noggin. We have DVR, and I let him set it to record everything that we miss, but he still fusses about it.

A few pictures from the derby this morning. We sort of "tricked" Henry into going with promises of visiting Nana's house. He did fine--got through the entire first round of everyone getting a turn and then took his second turn before asking if we could leave. That's when we left. (My dh Glen is wearing the orange t-shirt, and Henry is wearing a blue and orange Scout uniform with jeans.)

Thanks for looking!

By the way, there was one other rocket with similarly-striped rainbow colors.

Over here we do the pinewood derby. We make little blocks of wood into cars. And we race them. The problem in our house is getting my biggest boy(DH) to get the car started within a reasonable time frame so Josh could do what he had to do. Last year, Jon had 2 cars to work on one for a Tiger and the other a 2nd year Weblo. By the time, we get done with Scouts you would think the man will be an expert making Pinewood derby cars. But I have seen my share of the weird paint jobs.

And on the brighter side of scouts. Josh is hopefully going to be getting his Tenderfoot this coming Monday. And he has started working
on his 3rd merit badge: Geneology and one of the things he has to do it seak to a family member of aquaintance about their lives. He chose my dad who is in Florida. So I just emailed my Dad to warn him of the impending phone call. I told my dad to behave, and to be patient esp if Josh goes off on a tangent. Though my sister told me I should give Josh the same warning about my Dad going off on one of his tangents. She told me to watch for Josh to tune out if my Dad does his tangent..lol.

Have fun.
