Henry's teacher just called re S-Team--

Mrs. G just called me to tell me that she went to the S-Team meeting to discuss Henry, and they all decided since he was doing fine academically and was at or above grade level that he didn't need any services at this time. She also told me that they couldn't do the tests that I asked for; only the doctor could do those. I don't know about that. I asked for the whole list of tests, but the doc told me that the school could do 2 of the 3 tests and then I wouldn't have to pay for them.

Mrs. G also told me that Henry would be meeting with the guidance counselor to work on some social stuff for 30 minutes one day a week. And that she has noticed some things that she is going to work with, also. She said she has been doing a lot of research on Asperger's. I'm really glad that she is learning about it and wants to help Henry. Oh--AND she said that she may recommend OT for him, because she has noticed that he has trouble putting on his jacket and gloves and stuff like that.

I'm not sure what my question is, because--like I've said before--I don't know what I'm doing.

Mrs. G also said that Henry's file would be kept open so that they could reevaluate if/when he starts having more trouble academically.

ok, if they're saying he's doing academically fine and doesn't need any services yet he needs OT-- isn't having an OT services???-- and they're having the guidance counselor work with him on social skills that's also a service. I think they should have an IEP for those services, and they'll have to some testing. They need to track the services he's getting and you need to know that they're doing what they're saying they'll do. I would suggest visiting and asking this over at the IEP board. They can steer you in the right direction as far as what to ask for and how to get them to do what needs to be done.

Her response does not sound correct to me. Wonderful Steph & co at the iep board (Special education plan) should be anble to give you the correct info. Good Luck.

Is he having trouble in school other than academically? Mike has never really had "academic" problems but he is in a special day class. Academics isn't the only thing that a child can qualify for a IEP for. It is any portion of thier education. For instance, behavior, social skills, etc.

Mike has some academic concerns but they are parts fo this and parts of that so he doesn't "fail" classes. For instance, he is about to start a meltdown over a book report. Will finish this later.

Robin,

Betsy took the words out of my mouth. Talk about mixed messages!

I don't know what tests you requested and what was refused. They should be able to do a comprehensive Speech and language eval.
