I read your post re: environment and about going to the zoo & the beach & Legoland. Do you live in San Diego? I live in Del Mar, Ca. I have a 10yr. old dd who is being evaluated now for ADD & Asperger's (in fact I meet the teacher & Psych. today )for another IEP. Anyway if you are local, let me know. Take care,Mary Ann

Maryann,

that will be fun. DH is off so we have been fixing house stuff (bought one with a large yard in nice area, but in need a huge amounts of repair last summer) and doing stuff with the kids. Cait is the only one in school this week. I am going to try to work out with him a good time to get together because I think that would be just great. Cait has a sister who is 4 years younger that she gets along great with as well.

About me. I am 34, married for 11 years, have 4 kids. I was a teacher until about 3 years ago. I taught autistic children mainly and for the last few years of teaching worked with young children with autism as a lead home educator/ ABA therapist. I varied between full and part time. I am now a SAHM. With 4 kids on different schedules I find I don't have time to work or the money to pay for daycare. It was really frustrating putting all my energies into other kids when my kiddo desperately needed the same interventions then, so I stayed home. Of my 4 kids, Cait is AS/PDD-NOS, Mike is ADHD with aspie and OCD tendencies (still trying to figure it out), Emily is NT and Dave we are still trying to figure out although he is ADHD and SID at least.

I will definitely give you a call.

Hi, Sarah is 10 & in 5th gr. I should have held her back (big mistake) so she would be in 4th. She was 10 in Sept. She seems to play best with girls that are younger than her. Sarah doesn't have much interest in horses or has ever gotten to ride, but she likes to swim, read Harry Potter, ride her bike & scooter(solitary play most of the time) She does play softball this season & seems to like it. We also like the zoo, seaworld, bowling, miniature golf, etc. My home # is 858-259-1966 if you would like to get them together. We live right off D.M. Hts. Rd close to the 5 freeway. I would not mind coming up to North County, we shop at the mall & Walmart in Carlsbad sometimes. I just found a psychol. in Carlsbad named Cynthia Norall, but she is booked up until June. She has social group & works with A.S. kids. Take Care-Mary Ann

I was just talking to someone the other day about how small Del Mar district is. I feel for them, but despite there shortages, there are still timelines they must work within. I understand the cutbacks, but the vast majority of cutbacks have affected regular ed. personnel and don't take effect until next year. I am getting some of that talk too, but sometimes it is a convenient excuse.

As far as a 504, you don't need to fight. IT may be helpful in the interim while you wait for an IEP. It is available to anyone with a medical diagnosis in need of modifications. If your dd has a diagnosis from a doctor then it is basically a given. It basically provides modifications. Cait is on a IEP, but my 7 y.o. is on a 504. It is somewhat helpful. It is all he needs at this time, but it is pretty much expected that he will need an IEP at some point in the future.

It would be fun to get the girls together. What are your dd's interests. Mine is animals, especially horses. I have been trying to meet girls in our area for a while. Cait does have 1 good friend now. she is also playing nicely with the girls in school, 1 in particular. I always thought it may be a good idea to get her involved with girls with "similar" interests. We know lots of boys here in north county with AS, but no girls. What grade is she in? Cait is 9 next month and in 3rd grade.

We are In Del Mar School District. I hope to get her an IEP but we have 1 resourse lady & 1 psychologist & they are overworked. Our district is laying off teachers too like everywhere in Ca. They mentioned getting her a 504 which isn't as helpful as an IEP. I'm going to fight for it. If you want to get my dd & your dd together let me know. I will give you my phone #. My dd has only 1 or 2 friends. Have a good day-MaryAnn

Vista. HEHE We are neighbors. So the message I typed under social skills is right then. I just found this post after I wrote that one. I have a 8 1/2 y.o. dd who was dx'ed PDD-NOS at 4. Her new neuro has redx'ed asperger's because of the language gains. I think it all depends on who is doing the diagnosing personally. I also have a 7 y.o. ADHD ds being evaled for either NLD or AS. He has a lot of traits, but I don't think he is true AS.

Out of curiosity what school district are you in?
