Hi everyone,

I just wanted to let you know that I've passed your comments onwards about the ads and pop ups and want to follow up with each of you.

Are there pop-ups or certain ads in particular that are causing you problems?

I'm not sure how to describe this technically...the static ones aren't a problem. The ones that pop up when you first navigate to the page are problematic: they make it difficult to scroll down or see what is on the page or how to get to the different sections. The ones that 'revolve' are terrible as well, as they are very distracting and make it difficult to read posts. I think we all understand the balance needed to have a free access board and don't object to adverts per se

I don't find the 'content' problematic at all, although having a 'autism/vaccines' item linked to this board might be seen as a bit contentious as this isn't a debate board and that particular issue is very thorny for a lot of us here.

Good point.

I especially hate when you first open the board and you try to scroll down to read posts.

What I have a problem with are the pop up ads.

The worst problem I thought I had: that the top banner ad would "grow" and cover up the top navigation board (and not shrink again) seems to have been fixed, which is great.

However, the embedded links Will. Not. Go. Away. When I disable them, they are back the next day. There used to be a box at the top to disable them, but now that is gone, too so here is what I have to do:

Roll over the one of the links, and wait for the pop-up. Often that doesn't work, so I have to find another link and try again

Click on a tiny yellow square (and if I miss, which I often do due to neurological issues, hit "back" and start again)

Click on the disable" tab

Wait for it to load (it is slow for some reason -I wonder why?)

Click n the "disable" link

Go back and check if it has worked

THEN I can read/ answer whatever posts I haven't lost interest in, which is probably none.

Bring back the growing banner and remove the links. I had a fast workaround for the old problem.

Hi Paula -

The disabling should work for everyone. Can you tell me what browser you are using? Also, if you have your browser set to clear cookies on closure, that would be why you need to disable them again. The disable function only lasts for as long as your browser keeps that particular cookie.

Here's the direct link for the disabling page: http://www.ivillage.com/support/0,,gmmhcj0q,00.html. It can be found at the very bottom of each post (below the box with the choices for board settings, high interest flags and newsletter sign-ups).

Erin,

thanks for chiming in.

I double checked my firefox settings and it WAS set to clear cookies (I had thought it hadn't been). I changed that and will see how it goes.

No problem! If it doesn't work, let me know and we'll try to figure out why. :)
