Hi everyone,

I may have been on the board once before back before my son was diagnosed. Micah, who is 2 1/2, was diagnosed in january finally. The Dr diagnosed him with ASD. He said he is high functioning, which we already knew. Dr said he believed my son is PDD-NOS, but labled him as ASD to get the proper treatments. Micah has been going to an early intervention program since the end of august, and has done very well. His main issue is his speech, and finally heard him say mama to me in september. He now says many words, but more so on a imitation basis. Sometimes he tries to talk but its just comes out a big jumbled up sentence. He has done so much better since starting school, and that was my main goal..to get him the help he needs.

I have visited another board and didnt get one single hi, so thought I would come here and hope to meet people and talk about the same issues. Its nice to meet you all and look forward to getting to know you!

Hi Shannon,

Yes I remember you. I remember I liked (like) your son's name.

Welcome back! I am sorry you had to come back as an "official" member, but we are glad to have you. My boy is HFA and was very language delayed as a toddler/preschoolers. You would never know that now (he is 9)! Once they are in a good program they can make huge strides.

Please make yourself comfortable and stick around.

Hi Shannon,

Have a BIG hello from me; I'm sure the other gals will chime in. This is a fabulous board with so many awesome ladies with many backgrounds and kiddos who range from your ds all the way into the teens and beyond. I have two ds's on the spectrum, high functioining Autism and Aspergers. And trust me both are s different, in terms of symptoms , behaviors and personality.

Liam(7-hfa) was a real talker, but it was later we realised it was all imitation and echolaia, so I understand what you mean about speech.

Cian(4-Apie) is my shy guy, still struggles with dysarthria (low muscle tone in his mouth, tongue and jaw), so add that to an aspie pragmatic speech impairment....you get the drift.

You are very lucky to get the dx as early as 2.5. I took us until Liam was 6 to get his, after 3 years of chasing one. Like you I knew deep in my gut he was spectrum, but everyone else wanted SID or ADHD to be the only dx. We snagged Cian's last Fall at age 4, and this was after 2 years of speech, and me taking him through preschool intervention twice for evals. e finally found a good psch who was qualified to test him, (and one that the insurance would cover, lol).

Well nuff 'bout me, welcome again,

Dee

Welcome to the board!!!!

I'm sorry to hear you weren't recieved well on another board. This board has been my "go to" for about 2 yrs now. My son is 4 1/2 dx'ed with PDD.

We all have our fair share of storys, laughs and advice. Hope you'll stick around and ask any question. I'm more than confident that one of us may have an answer for you.

Welcome Shannon!

To second what everyone else said, I am happy you came back, this is an amazing place for support, undertanding, and friendship.

My daughter CHloe just recieved her Aspie dx, and I am trying to find the time and energy to get my 6 yr old son in for an eval.

Hi Shannon,

I also want to welcome you to this board. The ladies here are the greatest. My PDD-NOS son was also a late talker.
