Hi Dawn and welcome,

I have seen you in some other spots here at Ivillage. Sorry that circumstance brings you here but you will fit right in. We are a pretty nice bunch of gals with our quirky type kids. No alien eye popping here. Heck it is more a share of expereinces, like "Oh that reminds me" or "gee you think that is good check out this...."

Don't kick yourself for not pushing a dx sooner (like I should talk. I do that regularly with my son). PDD was questioned starting at 3 but dad and I were in denial and were able to convince professionals like wise. He did have some good social outgoing type behaviors that made it easier to do that when little. When he was diagnosed at 7 I went back and told his preschool teachers and they all basically said they had thought all along he was on the spectrum. He was diagnosed AS then more recently ASD. I kicked myself alot but really it doesn't get us anywhere. We just have to look forward from now and start working on getting him the right supports from here on out.

Dawn,

I think you've been here before, but welcome back.

It's always bittersweet to welcome someone "officially" to the board, because that diagnosis is a big old mouthful to digest. Know that we are here for you, to offer any answers and support we can.

Thanks for the welcome. It does sometimes feel that my ds is the only one that acts or plays the way he does. Most people are clueless what its like to have a child that acts different and plays differently then there children.
