Hi everyone, my daughter is 2 years 11 months and was just diagnosed with PPD-NOS with "autistic/asperger" types of tendencies, as well as SPD and ODD tendencies. I read your thread about looking back and I am right there with you. There are so many things about her behavior that make sense in light of her diagnosis. I am just starting to learn all about it. We have been referred to OT and evaluation through the school district. Do any of you who have the asperger's diagnosis also have the SPD issues? I am having trouble teasing apart the overstimulation aspect ... is it SPD, is it aspergers, or is it some combination of the two? Also, how do you know that your child has a narrow focus on something (someone mentioned Bob the Builder and another of you mentioned thomas trains). I am not sure if dd has this obsession but she does seem to memorize everything. Among others, our biggest behavioral issues are her tantrums and her need to control everyone as if they are actors in her own play. I am not sure where or if we fit in I just was reading on your board getting to know you and your kids and just wanted to say hi.

Welcome to the board.

It sure is all overwhelming and confusing when you first step into this world.

Welcome, welcome, welcome!

I have two kids on the spectrum. Narrow focus can mean different things, to different people. In our house it means connecting with something, obsessing over it to the point that you want nothing to do with anything else...then moving on to the next thing.

My youngest is a 6 year old girl, and her Dx is simply "autism". With Claire, the first one I remember started when she was about 18 mos. old. She would spend hours lining up small plastic Blues Clues characters. She would throw a fit if she was asked to do anything else, or even play with a different toy. This obsession lasted for well over 16 months. Her most recent subject of "narrow focus" is Dr. Seuss. Oi! This one has lasted 18 months- and counting.

Don't worry, you fit in here just fine, and we're glad you're here. :-)

Hope you stick around!

Welcome to our family

Our DS is a Thomas the train kinda kid. We've been working past the echolia (he'll repeat tv shows by memory). I get him to break from the phase the best I can. He has PDD. He is 3 1/2 got dx'ed at 2 yr 9 mos. He has made alot of improvement. He's speech was what cued us. Little did we know the 'label' was close behind.

Getting the child as much services as you can is a great help. We'll be in "it" one year in March. He amazes me each day

Good Luck to you

Hello and welcome.

I'm sorry you have to be here, but I'm glad you "de-lurked". You will find a lot of good help and support around here.

Both my kida have major sensory processing issues.

Hi everybody, thanks for the welcomes. I am happy to find people i can ask questions and exchange thoughts and support with about this. Paula, about memorizing things...she does not memorize shows or anything, she just seems to have a flawless memory for toy parts and how they go together and the way things have happened in the past preferring that they be done again in the future exactly the same way. Well I look forward to getting to know you.
