Hey ladies! Went to the doc appt. this afternoon and ...well... I'm in limbo. I addressed her about his sleep problems(he's up at least once every night), and immediately she wanted to switch his melatonin for something else! I said "NO. I want him to have a sleep study done before any meds are given to him for this" and she agreed. Victory #1. I then addressed the issue of getting him an autism assistance dog. She agreed to that (after all, a dog won't fit in the fridge!). Victory #2. But then I addressed the issue of Asperger Syndrome. This doc is completely off the wall with this. I tell her what a lot of his behaviors are, and every time, she said that ALL of those behaviors can be attributed to ADHD also. WUH????? I don't think so! But just to be sure, could you ladies help me out and post a list of the behaviors that your Aspies had that led their docs to believe they had AS. Maybe I'm just nuts, but I wanna be sure. I realize that not all kids with ASD are the same, but there is bound to be SOME similarities there. Dakota is officially dx with PDD-NOS, but the older he gets, the more I'm thinking AS cuz his behaviors are changing and not for the better! Please help me out with this guys...I feel like I'm losin' it!

I can tell you Liam's dx from a neuropsych and a dev ped (both at Kennedy Krieger) was adhd combined tyepe. His ASD dx only cam last year after he was having a horrible time in 1st grade at a new school (not that kindy was a friggin' picnic either). I now think he's a bit of a co-morbid issue, but ASD being his primary disability. TRUST YOUR GUT! You knoe him better than anyone.
