OK ladies, we are seriously at the end of our quickly unravelling rope here. Nick is on clonidine which has lost all of its effectiveness so in a desperate move, I crushed up 1 mg of melatonin and gave it to him in applesauce hoping he will finally come off his high horse and settle down and sleep. He is completely what dh and I would describe as manic right now. Another post on that though. My question is how fast will it work? We are climbing the walls here, he has destroyed his room, the matress is on the floor... :(

Sweety, have you considered trying other medications like Abilify and such?

Hi Michelle!
He can't take Benadryl because of the clonidine, but thankfully the melatonin only took about 30 minutes and he is finally sleeping. It looks like the 1 mg was a good dose for him...I will use it as necessary for nights like this!

Hi hon,
I am going to see what his dev ped says. If the clonidine doesn't seem to be doing anything, I would rather switch to something that will work better for him. Rather than have him hold it all in all day and then release when he gets home, I would rather see him not have anything to hold in period. The melatonin finally worked and he is sleeping peacefully now. We however are frazzled...haha....
