It's been a nightmare over here..... I can get Chris and Nic to bathe about once a week usually.

This is big for us too. We were on a weekly schedule when he was younger but now I'm trying to increase it to 3 times a week. Part of the reason is that his wiping skills aren't the best :D
Brushing teeth is also a nightmare. He wants me to do it for him but I often leave for work before he goes to school. Dad isn't likely to notice it if he skips it. I have his O.T. working with him on oral defensiveness because of his poor eating habits and I'm hoping he will be able to tolerate teeth brushing a little more as this goes on.

We used to have a very strict bedtime routine which included a bath/shower except on Saturday nights (hair washing on Sunday and Thursday nights). That worked great because that was the routine and they just did it.

As they got older, we have had more resistance as bathtime it clashed with TV shows, video gaming and other late night favorite activities. It helps to have a prearranged time with them: If Peter agrees to get in the shower at 7:47pm, he will be in there at 7:47pm. Not 7:46 or 7:48!

One thing we have started doing is swimming three times per week during the week. We are members of the local community center which has an indoor pool. This is great for exercise. I can't always get them both showered after the pool because if it is just me with them, we have to go to the co-ed changing room, which doesn't have a shower. But at least they get dunked and chlorinated. And it is an activity rather than TV watching. Two friends of their swim at the same time, which helps a lot.

On Sunday afternoons the whole family ges swimming, and after the swim I take Siobhan and Jim takes Peter into the showers and wash hair etc. Then they are sparkling clean for school on Monday and can relax in front of the telly on Sunday night.

I hope this helps.

This house hold tends to be a little funky anyways, DH and I are not big on daily showers, every other day more like. DS swims and showers after 2xs a week, takes "warm relaxing baths" in the evening a few times a week and washes his hair about every other week or so, but as he has a curly mop that always looks good but tends towards dryness, too much washing really isn't good for his hair. He's just starting to now need antiperspirant or deodorant, but I don't remember to remind him, so that's sporadic until I notice the muskiness. HE always LIKES the way he smells, lifts his arm to sniff, says AAAHHHHH lol. Such a guy.

I do massage great smelling conditioner and curl enhancer into his hair every other evening or so, and we use body lotion all over after the warm bath as he gets into bed. He also likes a shoulder massage after he's in bed, part of the old night-time routine for relaxing and getting ready for sleep. But this doesn't happen every night. Some times he wants to put himself to bed and read, don't come with me, Mom, good night. He's getting older now.

And he goes to my hairdresser with me for hair cuts, although I will trim it up when we haven't been there in awhile ... which, BTW, I need to schedule. Fortunately, his hair always looks good because of his perfect ringlets, which I don't have. My hair is super straight and fine, I am always so jealous of his gorgeous hair and eyelashes....

These are hard ones here too!

After a year of working with her OT on the sensory side of showering and the ability to get through the steps without constant prompting I found the only thing that helped in the long run, is to make it a part of her routine.

LOL!

I totally agree, swimming, chlorine and all, count for a bath here.

I used to be amazed at parents who would bathe their kids immediately after swimming ( before I realized their kids didn't scream and fight the whole bath)

I have so learned to pick my battles!
