I won't get into my troubles with my school district. The specifics aren't important. I am discovering an aspect of autism that doesn't get discussed in public awareness campaigns. The fact is.....if you have a kid who falls anywhere on the spectrum, you need tons of money to fight the school system to get the services that your kid needs just to get by.
I've retained some legal advice. It just isn't pretty. My situation is such that I can't homeschool. I feel depressed sending my kid into a system that doesn't want him and he's not learning a DARN thing. In fact, I feel that his current placement has made him worse off than he was before he started school.
Any academic skills he has, has been taught at home by me (after school and during the summer time). I thought the school setting would give him a chance to socialize with peers, but it hasn't.

Major hugs to you.
Autism can be pretty expensive but if you get creative you can manage. We have been able to access appropriate services and sometimes even more than what is typically offered through creativity and effective advocacy.
Also, it may not be the whole district but just that one school. That has been my frequent experience. It varies school to school.
