Hi and welcome, I have to admit from what you describe of your nephew he sounds a lot like my son. I too had a hard time getting my doctor to see my concerns and brought him to many "specialists" before he was finally diagnosed last year. Please stick around because this group is very helpful and supportive. Teresa
Hi, I do see red flags. Except for hand flapping, speaking and rocking, my son had all that you just described. It took 8 long yrs as the ped. thought everything was normal. Even the school physcologist thought he was pretty normal. It took a specialist in autism area to see all our problems.
I must say that a good one has a very long waiting list.
My son was evaluated in preschool (thru the school district) and the results were that he was very intelligent but probably bored.......preschool evals are not detailed......there are some tests that can not be run on someone so young......my son was finally diagnosed at 7 years old by a pediatric neurologist (and second opinion by a neuropsychologist).
Yes, my ds's ped thought he was wonderful and normal too.
hello and welcome. We are glad you found us.
How is this Autism evaluation being conducted? Through public channels (the schools/county/state)
