SHe is going to be a MESS today for the eval - I mean, give me a break, I need her to sleep good 1 NIGHT - 1 day that we've had plannned for A YEAR. I am SO upset I can't even think straight and I can't stop crying.

RELAX!!!!!!!!!!!!

these people should be use to kids in their various moods. she could surprise you and "perform" as you expect her to. i have been through 2 evals with 2 kids. each time they asked me if that day was similar to their typical behavior.

when i went, i was already convinced it was ASD and wanted the diagnosis.

Sometimes it is actually best if the child isn't on thier best behavior. Then the doctor gets to see some of their worst behavior too and not just have to hear about it from the parent wondering if they are exhagerating.

Last year, Mike was being evaluated for regional center services and we REALLY needed them (one thing included respite care and he could not be watched by a regular sitter then at all). Mike had been horrible daily for months. He had 1 good day and it was the day of the evaluation and it was a really good day. The psychologist tried to say ADHD when everyone else that knew Mike knew it was ASD. Heck even the initial intake counselor for Regional Center saw it but the psychologist thought he was charming, LOL. What I had to say didn't make a hill of beans of difference. This guy nearly didn't qualify him but I convinced them to call his teacher, the district office, therapist and visit the school. One call to the school teacher and they qualified him immediately. They realized I wasn't full of it.

I had the exact opposite reaction as you. The ONE day I needed him to have a bad day and he was stellar. LOL.
