I think I mentioned in one of my posts that Alex has "adopted" a boy in his class as his "best friend". The boy wants nothing to do with Alex, as Alex has embarrassed him more than once with his quirky social behavior. If the boy gets his name on the board for breaking a classroom rule, Alex gets ballistic and yells at the teacher, etc.
Well, this week so far, his "friend" has been out sick every day. Alex has literally been coming home from school crying each day; today has been the worst so far. He couldn't concentrate on his homework this afternoon, and is now downstairs crying. He said that he's "worried" about the boy; maybe he's in the hospital, etc. etc. I assured him that he's probably fine (and his class would know if he were really sick by now). He said that making a get well card won't help (obviously his teacher or aide had suggested that to him at school). Nothing I say to him will get his mind off this boy in his class.
Help; he is completely obsessed with this kid!

Laurie,
I don't really have any advice on this one, sorry! But Nathan was attached to this little girl when he was in preschool. She was always getting into trouble, she was full of energy with a spunky attitude!! Anyway, she would always cry when she got into trouble, and Nathan would just worry so much about her. The teachers would have her sit in a chair off from the group (it was called the "thinking chair"), and Nathan would stand by her trying to calm her down. It was very sweet, but the teacher had to keep Nathan away from her, and try and redirect his attention.
She was the only one that he has ever worried about. He hasn't gotten himself attached to anyone in kindy or now in 1st grade either. But he still doesn't like it when someone gets in trouble. Our kids do have tons of compassion, but they can get obsessive about it too!
Sorry I couldn't be more help!

Sorry I'm not much help either because my kids are still at home with me. Poor little guy! That's a tough one, hopefully some of the other moms who are seasoned pros at this will come up with a good idea for you.
