I need to vent

This is my second attempt at posting this so bare with me because now I'm even more ticked off. I just got a call from Jake's service co-ordinater letting me know that yet again Jake will be having another PCA starting Monday. He has only been in school 6 weeks and this will be his 3rd PCA. The first one was fired because she had absolutely no interest in Jake and basically sat to the side and let him do whatever he wanted. The teacher was not impressed with her so the director of the school called and had her replaced. The 2nd aide started this past Monday and I went before school started and sat in on a meeting with the PCA, techer, service co-ordinator and school director so we could talk about what Jake's needs were and who was responsible for what. Now I have to go and do it all over again this MOnday with someone new.

Ella had her first OT session yesterday, 2 months after we moved, even though I had sent all her paperwork to this county 6 weeks before we moved so there would be no lapse in service. She was supposed to have her annual eval by E.I today which they cancelled last minute. I had asked for an ST to be part of the eval team because of my concerns with her speech and was told they couldn't provide one. Yesterday her OT told me they will try and worm out of providing speech because there is such a shortage of SPL's and that there is a waiting list of 6 months for speech therapy. 6 months!!!!C'mon, is that a joke? She's almost 2.5 that would mean she would be about to transition to the IU without ever getting speech from E.I. I'm starting to regret moving big time!!!!

ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGH
ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGH

Okay,I'm taking deep breaths and trying not to pick up the phone and scream at one of them. The irony in all of this is I just went to a seminar yesterday run by E.I about how to build better relationships between parents and E.I staff.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Teresa,

Man oh man what a royal PITA. I am glad here that the school district is the one who provides 1:1 aides in class (not PCA's) but at the same time it is harder to fire the bad ones. I have been lucky thus far for the most part, save draczilla in 3rd grade.

He is still in pre-K right? What happened to the one that started last week?

As for the speech and EI, do they have someone they can pay private for if they can't provide her the services. I know when school age they have to do that. If they cannot provide services the child needs then the school pays for someone privately to do so. Just a thought. But with EI run around by the time you get to the end of that question she will be in IU.

That sounds like the frustration I am having with the whole audiological thing. I even talked to Mike's teacher about it today. When I said his hearing was fine in that test she got this frustrated look and said something to the effect of "well that is not what we see and they didn't test what we specifically asked them to test!" So back to the drawing board. GRRRRr

Hugs and red wine to you.

Thank god it is Friday!

Renee
