On Wednesday, dh participated in a golf charity that was 2hrs away. It was for autism. I was real surprised that he signed up to do this, but some guy that he knows (whose son is autistic) mentioned it to dh. He told this guy that our son is also autistic, and that he would really like to do this.

Anyway, me and the boys didn't go, because they had school. But when dh was done golfing and was on his way home, he called me. He had met the WA Autism Society President and also some other parents of autistic children. There were speeches made and even some children there that are on the spectrum. He couldn't stop talking about about.

This was the first time that dh was around anything autistic....other than our son! He really got to see and "feel" the heartbreak that everyone feels. And today, he wore an autism bracelet to work.

He saw so many similarities to the children that were there. And to have conversations with people who deal with the same things that we deal with everyday.....I think it was really good for him. I'm glad he went. And I think he also realized how much I do around here for Nathan and everything that I have done.

The charity event made more money this year than in the past, I believe dh said, $30,000. I think he felt great to be a part of that.

YAY!!!!

I know when the penny dropped for my DH; it dropped. Let's hope your DH is the same.

...and well done him on the 30 grand raised!

That is awesome Michelle. I don't remember a specific day where DH finally accepted it. It was more a gradual thing. But DH was a specialist in the field when the kids were diagnosed and it still took him awhile. Now he is as well a pretty big advocate, though he leaves most of it to me. He just comes when I need the big dogs.
