Idiots at BOE!

The idiots at the BOE scheduled a bus pick up for Everett to take him to the school that he graduated from.
Not only is that stupid but he doesn't even need a bus anymore period because he is attending private school within walking distance of home.
IDIOTS!
So I call the number on the bus pick-up letter to inform them and they gave me another number to call. I call that number and it is the BOE who never answers the phone.
So if a bus comes for him on Tuesday I will probably scream.
His transfer info to private was done two months ago, this is unreal.
Okay I feel better, just needed to vent.
Thanks for listening.

It would be nice if the left hand would communicate with the right, but they don't. I can understand how this happens. School districts are beauracracies with the efficiency of the DMV or social security. THey have no funding to update and even if they want to, the red tape to do so is overwhelming. Plus the shear numbers of kids.
This year we are doing OT in my district. We recieved a list from the DO of which kids had OT services at which schools. Most of the time at each school there would be at least one child who had moved onto middleschool, a private school. Oh heck, one even moved to germany! By the time the list got to us there was no way of knowing who was wehre with all the IEP's they have to track with each thing on it. And, just the same, we would often end up at a school and the teacher would say "isn't so and so on your case load. We had his IEP this summer". Nope, never heard of him, he is now.
My biggest fear is that we are missing someone.
I have the old files from the last OT and I have been doing an audit of them trying to make sure we have everything, making treatment binders for the schools with attendance sheets to be sure that we see each kid how many times, making schedules to see each kids (those ones with 4x a year are a pain to schedule and not forget) and we have a caseload of about 100 kids. So far doing that on my own with just OT stuff has taken probably over 10 hours worth of work and outside the regular work time (an addition 12 this week just going school to school to find all the kids and schedule) so I can see how transportation stuff would be over looked.

Well, that is NOTHING. Don't even get me started about bussing with NYC BOE, etc. Honestly. I had placed in Malcolm's file a letter that he must have air conditioning because of sensory issues. Every year, we got this letter. It's written in his IEP.
Every year, the first very hot day there is no air conditioning on the bus. Often several children on the bus also have asthma, physical reasons why they are to have airconditioning! Every year we call the transportation office to complain and get handed around until we can find records and they can input the AC, because they never have ANY of the kids listed as needing AC. And our kids, bussed very long distance around the City because of the ridiculous system here, spend at least an hour on the bus. Except you get a letter from your doctor saying it can't be more than an hour. The 14 year old PDD kid downstairs goes 2 hours each way, no way would I allow that! They can just send MY son on his own private bus, if he has to go to Connecticut because of lack of schools...
Now I just start all the calling early in the Spring! And I know where to call right away to check.
But NOW we are not going to school HA HA. Although, since we haven't yet given up the spot, I am not yet letting bus company know. I will, however, go down and let bus matron know every day until we give up the spot, that Malcolm will not be going in!
