IEP info (first timers)

Welcome to the world of IEPs, the experience of which can be as varied as our children are and as each school and their staff is. It is a good idea to talk to parents of older children, especially if they are on the spectrum, in gleaning how well your school district does in serving children with disabilities. You want to build a good working relationship with your team. Has your child been in preschool, been evaluated? In an IEP meeting, there should be discussion of your child's strengths and weaknesses and the beginning stages of discussing what supports will be needed. This should be an ongoing process and should always have the education of your individual child at the heart of every decision. Good luck!
