Hi, everyone. I'm a mom to a 6-year-old with multiple special needs and way back when, I used to be the CL of the hypotonia board.
Anyway, I’ve been working on a project and I wanted to show you in case it’s something that would be of benefit to any of you. (Thank you, Paula, for giving me the ok to post this. And hello to my Nee Nee - I just saw your name on here!:))
I’ve been working on putting together a site for the artistic expression of parents of children with special needs. (Any type of special needs.) It includes areas for essays, photography, poetry and artwork.
There’s a page in there about why I made the site and my feelings in general about artistic expression so I won’t go on at length here, but, in a nutshell, I think artistic expression can be beautiful, illuminating, and/or transformative. I think that applies to those doing the creating and those who view those creations. And, given that I’m a parent to a child with special needs, that was the area I really wanted to explore artistically.
Now, this site doesn’t contain therapy resources, IEP information, or general support – those are all very important things but nothing nearly that helpful can be found on my site – lol. It can’t replace boards like this one. I think it has it’s own value though as a place of exploration and artistic expression.
Whether you wish to contribute your own work or not, please drop by and read and look whenever you want to. I hope you visit often. And feel free to share the link with any other board or group (irl or virtual). Also free to share the link with people who don’t have kids with special needs – I think sharing between people who don’t have a common experience sometimes makes the world a little smaller, you know?
And everyone (whether contributors or not, whether special needs parents or not) are welcome to comment on the individual pieces there. (I think you need to be a member of typepad to comment but there’s no cost for that – there’s no cost at all for this site except what I pay to have it up and running.)
And, finally, if you’re moved to submit something of your own, please do!!!
Thanks for taking a look!

Ok, you guys have me laughing so hard I just spurted tea out my nose. I love this board.:)
THANK YOU for all your incredibly kind posts concerning the site. Thank you for your enthusiasm, for your support, and for getting the word out. Thank you to those of you who have already sent in your lovely submissions. And thank you, Candes, for highlighting the site in your article - I'm so touched and thrilled right down to my toes!!!!
You guys are wonderful. And talented. Submit!!
Mya Lisa,

Oh yes M-L, come back and visit! If not we will have to send the Lads after ya, and you wouldn't want that.
(warning, they are a goofy bunch. In particular watch out for those irish lasses. They are trouble. They would have way too much fun writing hiaku and cartwheeling I think).
Just to let you know, the article is up.

I am absolutely overcome.
Thank you, Candes, and thank you, my dear sweet Renee. I was FLOORED to open your site this morning and see my painting and then read those lovely words....
Your site is such a strong, positive, elegant resource - and having my site linked to yours is a great honor.
Thank you, ladies!!!!!!!!!
Hehehe, so you saw it already. That is what I get for emailing you back pre-coffee.
