for the last yr weve been very open and fourth coming with sharing and teaching all we can about the issues my daughter is dealing with to my family members. and today my older sister was over for a playdate and she questioned how things were going. i already knew this was going to get ugly because she knows nothing about nothing in the world of having a child with special needs. but in not so many words she tried to say she thought i was making all of this a bigger deal than it was and didnt think my daughter was any less normal than any other child.. im grateful she looks at my daughter with non-judgmental eyes , but come on my girl crashes into furniture and the floor on purpose she will repeat a word or phrase a million times till u say it too, shes almost 3 and still has to be told theres a curb or be helped on stairs! my list can go on and on and on. and im so hurt that my own sister seems to think i have fun in comjuring up her issues. i mean the state provides her therapy isnt that proof enough. why would i have ot, speech and psych coming to my house once a week each if there was nothing wrong with her! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
what should i say, should i just leave it be ???
thanks for letting me vent
Amy

It is hard for family members to see their beloved one as somehow "different" and so they rationalize the behaviors they see.
I hear you!!!
I wouldn't doubt everyone has at least one ignorant family member.
I think a couple of the problems are first our kids look just like "normal" kids.
I get this feeling from people, too.
