Hi Sara,

I have a quick question about RDI . Is there any peer reviewed scientific research done on RDI? If there is could you point me to it . By the way how is Malcom doing? Is he still home? The boys are still home and I am just finishing up in court this month with all of their cases. I have no intention of sending them back to public school and there is no private school to meet their needs yet. You would think that the doe would make appropriate placements available for students with ASD.

TIA,

Jackie~

Hi Jackie,

You can go to the RDI website rdiconnect.com and see, if there IS any peer research review it will be there. There is an RDI consultant here in NYC now who seems to have a pretty good reputation, we met with her a few weeks ago, mostly out of curiosity. Cliff and I do our own modified RDI work occasionally with Malcolm, so we are not really "in" the official RDI mode exactly. We are not likely to go the whole RDI way, but we might at some point have this consultant do an assessment, which is expensive but might give us a clearer idea of what more we might need to address with him moving forward.

I have the 5 hour RDI DVD, which gives alot of information. Maybe I can lend it to you? Although I'd like dh to watch more of it soon LOL...

No, we certainly don't have a school yet. We have interviews/appts. at several more private schools for the Fall, most are full-up even next Fall unless a student leaves, we knew that going into this. And we turned down 2 that we really felt were not right. And 1 turned Malcolm down, not a right match for their current group.

But Malcolm is doing great! Homeschooling is super for him. He is learning and incorporating so much of what he is learning into how he thinks about the world around him. His friendships are flourishing, he's making lots of progress in all his therapies. We do think about continuing homeschooling, but I would really have to stop working and that would mean we would have to cut our expenses in almost half and we do live in NYC!!!

I do think of you often, wondering how you are managing and with 3!!! Yes, isn't the situation in NYC just beyond beyond belief??? I have so loved living in this City so very much almost all my grownup life, but now at last I am finally starting to kinda hate it here.

Sad.
