So I took all three kids to Target today for portraits, (bad Mommy I am I have nothing decent of all three together). It was a low key event, all in jeans and blue polos. Liam was AWESOME, Cian well, was Cian (absent minded professor type) and Roan was thoroughly bemused by the whole event. The interesting part was I realised I'd left something in an aisle behind us and dashed back to get it (I'm talking 0.5 seconds), and when I got back the photographer was asking about Liam: age, grade etc). I figured she'd twigged something was amiss and I volunteered he was autistic. She gave me the other mother knows look, and suddenly we were both yakking about our kids. Her boy, also autistic was in 1st grade in the same school as Liam but IS mainstreamed. Apparently he does well at school, but not at home. Anyhoo she was fantastic with both boys and I will definitely get protraits done only with this particular photographer in the future. We exchanged enails,:)
On another note, I have met several Mom's lately that have kids on the spectrum or are bp. A Mom I know who is in our neighborhood has ALL 3 kids on the spectrum (she followed my car home one day as I had the ASD car magnet, lol). the other neighborhood Mom I knew for a while and just found out her middle boy is bp,...I gave her all my literature and books on it). Then last night Susan (posts here occasionally) came over with dh and ds's in tow, and all had a blast, and finally today at Target. Can I say I am a spectrum magnet,....lol. I defintely feel more connected right this second anyhow.

AAAAHHHHHHH HHHHHAAAA!
I have been wondering what to get for a tat. That is it. Since autism seems to be following me everywhere I think I shall get a big ole ribbon on my RUMP!
You gals crack me up too!
He he he he and when we FINALLY have our board retreat, Renee, you are going to have to bare butt and SHOW that tat, got that?
Having loads of friends who also just happen to be parents of autistic kids, well, I think it's the best!!! So many things just never need explaining. So many other houses where Malcolm can sleep over WITHOUT parents --- he recently informed me, "No offense Mom it's not you personally but I just need a lot more time without PARENTS, OK?" lol -- but really the best thing is that we are all a community and we all belong. People who need to take breaks or maybe yell a little too loud or don't follow parental guidance the first or second or third time so instructed are not looked askance at. IT'S SO RELAXING TO HANG OUT WITH PEOPLE WHO GET IT!!!!!
And I know about that spectrum magnet thing. I can spot our kids anywhere anytime, and do (NYC is a big place, many many spectrum kids all over the place). We are slowly taking over the planet, then we won't NEED our island nyah nyah nyah.
