..leadership award at school today. I had received in the mail a few weeks ago that his teacher nominated Dakota for a leadership award, which was awarded today in an assembly at school. He made me so, so proud especially thinking back toward the first half of the school year when we had SO much behavior issues. It was cute though when his name was called out. He got up started walking toward the podium then turn around after walking a few steps and walked back but then turned around and walked back to the podium and then turned around and walked back to where he was sitting...the teachers finally were finally able to get him directed to the podium half way and made it the rest of the way. I couldn't help but smile. The lady next to me kept saying how cute he was. He was all smiles when ever he looked my way. All the students that won this award got Dairy Queen Dilly bars and then was able to leave early with the parents if they chose to do so. Dakota, of course, thought that was a neat idea. I think he deserved what ever choice he made so get got to leave 45 minutes early from school. He thought he was big stuff.
For those who don't know us since I rarely post. My ds, Dakota, is going to be 7 in August. He was diagnosed with ADHD and PDD-NOS a few months ago. He was put on Focalin XR, which improved his behavior a great deal. :-) Changed it enough that he won the leadership award and raised his gredes a whole letter grade up in each subject. Wow!
Now that I just graduated with nursing school I'll be home more to be aournd my two kids and will get more attention than before. They'll probably want to send me back to school after a couple weeks! ha!!!
Oh, we just had our IEP meeting and will be placed next year in the same special ed class, which consists of both 1st and 2nd graders. He'll be 2nd grade. They'll keep his behavior form but may be able to eliminate it if his behavior continues the way it is currently. They may even pull him out of the class for math and placed in a regular 2nd grade classroom for that subject since he does well and loves it. They haven't decided yet but I think it'll be great. At least they can trial it. He'll have the same teacher next year as he has this year for his special ed class. I really like her so no complaints from me. So it was a wonderful IEP conference.
