So my 3yo (soon to be 4yo) is scheduled for her 4 yo well child check-up in July and is due for a bunch of immunizations.

From what I know thimerosol was introduced to many intravenus shots (vaccines as well as other syringe type medicines) to act as a preservative in the 1930's. It wa also found in other manufactured products. Asperger did much of his work prior to 1944 (I think 1934 onwards). 1944 was when his work was published and Kanner's work was published just a few months prior to Aspergers. hth

btw: i've always love Asperger's quote about our kiddos,

"We are convinced, then, that autistic people have their place in the organism of the social community. They fulfil their role well, perhaps better than anyone else could, and we are talking of people who as children had the greatest difficulties and caused untold worries to their care-givers."

A can of worms indeed!!! ;)

I thought I'd weigh in here.

I truly believe that Autism has genetic predispositions, and its symptoms and troubles are enhanced by environmental factors....and those are different for each child.

Thanks for all the history & research, very interesting.

I am in no way saying that everyone should vaccinate because of what I believe. Everyone should do what they feel is best for their family.

Like the pp, I also believe my DS was born an aspie!! & now that I've done so much research on it & see how he is developing now I am just about 100% positive that his father is also an aspie!!!

Dee, I lurk here a lot & I look forward to your take & opinions on things & I admire the way you cope with not one, but 2 ASD boys, I think I would have slit my throat by now if there were 2 of my DS!!!!

Helen, lol at your comment about two ASD boys.

You know its just always been this way. I think if I had an NT first and then the boys it would have been harder. And honestly we thought Cian just had a speech delay unil last Fall, so denial is a strong companion within these walls, lol. I can tell you dealing with a teenaged ASD scares the bejasus outta me; hats off to ya.
