Well, the injury didn't slow Mike down any so I didn't take him in yet but tonight I spoke to my SIL. It is purple in spots and both knuckles are swollen. She thinks he may have broken it. He has to have that enormous pain tolerance of an autistic. And here I was thinking he was always a wimp! I think that was more the anxiety than the pain, lol.

So here is the new dilema. It just took me an hour to convince him to let me splint it. Just that change alone was freaking him out. It took alot of patience and coaxing.

I also spent along time trying slowly to talk to him about going to the doctor tomorrow and getting an x-ray. I tried to explain it as best I could to him but I know he will likely freak there too. I also have to find a way to explain to the doctor Mike's autism without Mike noticing. He doesn't like any attention on himself and if he hears me talking about him he will freak too.

Ya know he thought he could die if he had an x-ray because once I told him he couldn't go watch Cait get one because it was dangerous. Geez. I need to watch how I word things.

Oh no, that's too bad about the writing. You know though when Kyle had his cast on he could still hold a pencil and write some. I guess it'd depend on the break and cast though.

I'm glad Mike was such a trouper!

Renee,

Guess it was a good thing you took him in!!! Poor Mike! How's he doing? Any complaining from the pain? It's going to be hard not having his writing hand.

When Nathan ripped up his hand on the treadmill, the pain was just unbearable for him!!! But after he saw the dr and they wrapped him all up....he felt better. The only time he complained was when we had to changed the dressing. It was his left hand, and he's right handed....so we didn't have any writing problems. But the bandage didn't stop him from playing with his little toys!

We got thru the x-ray fine. I told him that they were going to take a picture of his hand...like they take a picture of his teeth at the dentist. He thought the x-ray pic was pretty cool!

I also told the staff that Nathan was autistic....and thank goodness I did! They got him back right away (it was a walk in clinic). And they were great at explaining things to him, and were very patient too!!

Hope Mike starts feeling better soon.
