“I usually say to the child, ‘Congratulations, you have Asperger’s Syndrome' and explain that this means he or she is not mad, bad or defective, but has a different way of thinking.”

- Dr. Tony Attwood

In 1998, Tony Attwood wrote Asperger’s Syndrome: A Guide for Parents and Professionals. Almost immediately, this book became a bestseller and brought him international recognition as the foremost authority on Asperger’s Syndrome (AS).

Eight years and over 300,000 copies later, Attwood has written THE COMPLETE GUIDE TO ASPERGER’S SYNDROME which expands on his original book by providing a wealth of new information, answering the countless questions he has been asked over the years, and providing first-hand anecdotes from his friends and patients with AS.

During this evening, Dr. Attwood will discuss Aspergers Syndrome. He will offer practical techniques for families and individuals to implement. He will also discuss evidence that suggests genetic factors may be implicated.

Attwood has always been one step ahead of other experts in the field of AS research. Having worked with thousands of AS patients over the years, he understands the condition on both a clinical and personal level. Attwood focuses on the strengths rather than the weaknesses of these individuals. “I usually say to the child, ‘Congratulations, you have Asperger’s Syndrome,’” Attwood explains that this means he or she is not mad, bad or defective, but has a different way of thinking.” He stresses the important contributions AS patients make in our society. With a supportive environment suited to their talents, adults with AS can have incredibly successful careers and a happy personal life.
