Pets, even the littlest pet shop, are one of those things that very much go either way. It think it's cute that he likes them and sets them up and then goes off to play w/ the monster trucks.
My DD #2 is into Littlest Pet shop, she gets them out an plays and plays w/ them alone, but won't play w/ them w/ her friends or siblings. I think it's great that he'll play w/ the girls w/ them.
If Nick has more friends that are girls this might be a normal social thing because he's playing or collecting a toy that his friends also play with and like.
I would be glad that he plays with toys at all. Peter never really did. He *owned* a lot of toys (he could tell you how many at one point) but he never actually *played* with any of them. They were more to be collected, counted and never EVER thrown out. He quite liked it when *I* playd with his toys with him, but he could never do it unfacilitated. Even legos. He never built anything, but was happy to watch me build something and then take it apart...
At least now that he is older, He likes videogames and pokemon cards, so his penchant for collecting "stuff" is more acceptable.

edited to add: I *knew* there was a girlie connection. I have been racking my brain all afternoon: Pete got on a "neopets" trip for awhile. We used to go into Limited Too to get them for him (we used them as rewards) It didn't last long, and a few of his boy friends liked them too.
The sad part of the story: Siobhan decided she likes to shop for clothes in Limited Too, and that Target was no longer acceptable... ... -Paula
