How's about a little intro poll/ thread. It just dawned on me that since we are temporarily sans a cl and have all these new members it might be nice to do a intro thread. A little get to know you since there are loads of newbies and oldbies to get to know.

Maybe a little about you. A bit about the kidlets (the ones that bring you here and the ones also learning to live with and love autistics). Maybe where you are from, that sort of thing.

What'd ya think?

Hi. This is sort of a re-intro for me. I think I did post a long while back, once. I have a 4.5 year old boy who was diagnosed with PDD-NOS in February. He also happens to be a former 33 week preemie, which caused much confusion as to the cause of his delays when he was younger. We began OT a year ago, thinking he 'just' had sensory issues and a language disorder. OT has helped tons, the first thing that came along was his speech! He goes to regular preschool, because PPCD said he needed typical behavior models. He does get speech sessions through the school district. I am finding that life with my son gets easier each day. He does not tantrum nearly as much and tolerates changes much better than he used to. We actually enjoy taking him places now! And he has recently gotten over his fear of public toilets, which has opened a whole new world to us! :) He loves to drive his jeep, art projects, animals, and the computer.

I also have a little girl who is 18 months. When we decided to conceive her, we had just seen a child Neuro, who denied autism, and said Aaron's hypotonia was resolving. So it was really frightening to learn my son was on the spectrum, and fears about my daughter immediately came to mind. So far she is fine developmentally, miles ahead of where my son was at just-turned-18 months. She has about a dozen words, feeds her doll a bottle, and can brush her hair and mine.

I post here and there at the Dev Delays board, but really I guess I belong here.

I worked as a nurse until I had my son, now I stay home.

Nice to meet you all.

Hi Everyone!

I'm Michelle and I've been married to my dh, TJ, for 16 1/2yrs. We have 2 boys, Tyler 8 NT, and Nathan 6 HFA. I'm a SAHM and my dh is a sales manager in the car business. He works alot of hours, but he loves his job!

Nathan was dx'd a year ago, and is currently in kindergarten. He receives speech therapy and they are also working on his social skills. At home, we work on his anxiety, sensory issues, and his social skills. He was a late talker and has really started talking this past year, so we spend alot of time teaching him what is appropriate and what's not! Nathan is very routine, obsessive, anxious, funny, and compassionate. He worries alot about EVERYTHING. He's also very honest and direct, so he's quick to point things out to us and to STRANGERS---which can be very interesting! He does keep us laughing alot, and he's becoming more adorable by the day!!

My boys are pretty much my hobby! I do love to cook and do some gardening too---I LOVE flowers! Last year, I started a vegetable garden (container gardening!!), just planting the things we eat most...the boys loved that! Tyler is involved in baseball and swimming, so he keeps us busy running around! He's my little Jock---soo cute!! Nathan just loves being at home where he can rest and do his "thinking". I spend alot of time doing homework with the boys and keeping up with their lives. Both boys are doing well in school...they're both pretty smart. Dh says they get that from me, but I don't think so! LOL

We put our house up for sale about a month ago. We found a much bigger house!! So these days we spend alot of time keeping the house clean. Hopefully, we'll sell it soon, so we can relax!!

Michelle

Hi! I'm Betsy married to DH Michael for 15 1/2 yrs. He's a software guru, I am a SAHM. We have 5 children, Warren 13 ADHD no other offical Dx but again we're having testing for LDs as he's working really hard and still almost failing 2 subjects, Amelia 11 NT (she has learning differences that are at least worked out for the time being), Weston 8 still no official Dx but somewhere on the spectrum and I'm tired of all the run around! speech and language IEP, SID, Martha 5 NT but similar learning differences to her sister, Owen 3 NT but I think probably ADHD.

Right now I'm sick and tired of dealing w/ Drs and psychs! Noone knows or tells us anything! They smile and say "oh, at least you have intelligent kids" but why then can't my kids learn and succeed in the classroom?????? I'm tired of getting shifted from one person to another to another. We are on yet another waiting list for Weston. I'm thinking of at least having a psychologist give us an opinion while we wait of the developmental ped to get down his list to us!

I'm dealing w/ lots of meds for lots of various kids for asthma and allergies right now too. I'm ready for spring w/ all the pollen to be over!

I think my hobbies include gardening, house fixing things (I'm thinking of doing the ceramic tile in the kids bathroom myself-- it could be very theripudic!), sewing (thank goodness cause I can't find anything that fits Amelia that is even slightly acceptable for a preteen to wear!), and baking.

My big kids are quite busy and that keeps us busy. Warren plays the string bass and takes lessons at the USC String Project, University of South Carolina-- this has been his big success this year in a year full of not many successes. He also is a budding actor and enjoys drama workshop at our church. Amelia is a ballet girl -- now taking 4x a week. She was in a huge production at USC as well. Weston started piano lessons and I think this could be a good thing for him as well, he sings in the children's choir at our church and had a speaking part in their musical. Martha and Owen ride around in the van and sit in hallways waiting for lessons to be over.

Betsy
