Or at least the doctor is pretty sure that is what it was. She can't be positive naturally since she didn't see it and Cait isn't great at communicating what happened and how often it happens. But because Cait was really tired, napping and off for 2 days after she is as close to positive as she can be.

She is scheduled for an EEG in 2 weeks to see if it has gotten anyworse and I have a scrip for seizure meds (trileptal) to start after the EEG. She will likely need to stay on them for a few years and hopefully we will be able to wean her off when she is a older teen/young adult. Hopefully she will outgrow them.

If Cait continues to have these spells on medication, they are always when she is standing up and they are proceeded by being dizzy, then it is just fainting spells. But since the primary ped did all those medical tests 2 days after the last one she doesn't think it is fainting.

Oh and Cait tells me she had another minor one yesterday with seeing spots again.

That sucks in one way, but at least the doctor believes you now and is getting some help for Cait.

Hey Rene,

Liam was on trileptal for his mood disorder for almost a year.

Dear Renee,

Well, but it's good you found out she is having the seizures, sometimes it takes such detective work to figure out what is going on with our kids! The brain just gets exhausted.

Anyways, sending you some kind thoughts and for you lovely girl as well.

Renee, it is good to get some answers. I know what you mean about her not communicating too well. My Stephanie is the same way.

Good luck with the EEG. Is she seen by a regular doctor or neurologist. Stephanie's pediatrician had no idea she was having seizures because they were rather odd seizures to her, whatever that means. But the neurologist picked up on it right away. She is on Trileptal also and it works well for her. But she also takes Neuronton to control them. Stephanie actually has epilepsy as well as her Asperger's and ADD and is in the same situation, to stay on them for a few years and hopefully be weaned off and outgrow them. That is our hope.

I wish you guys the best.

Take care.

Hi Renee,
I am glad you found this out. Now that I think back, way before I started getting seizures, I used to experience the black spots for a little while and then it would go away. I did not know, then, how to tell my parents and kept putting it off. THen, one night I was hit with a real one and totally passed out. I was on seizure meds for few years and never got those black spots again. Now I am adding 2 and 2, go fugure !!! So Cait is also feeling the same way. I should really praise you for being there for her and fighting with the system to put her on right meds.

take care,
Anandhi

Renee,

I guess it's no surprise, but it still stinks. I'm sorry. :(

Let us know how the EEG goes.

Renee,

Good luck on the EEG in a couple of weeks, hopefully these seizures are somthing that Cait will be able to outgrow. At least you got an rx and are right on top of things! Your kids are lucky to have such a great mom!

((HUGS)) at least you are pretty sure that's what it was and possibly the meds will help. How scary to have her in middleschool where kids are really weird about this kind of thing and the teachers are so "hands off" and won't do much of anything to help.

I wish you luck!
