I had to write my first email to the teacher today aabout an issue and school doesn't start for another week.
We went to pick up Cait's schedule today. I had talked to her teacher earlier in the week and I knew that she had signed Cait up for this one fabulous language arts/social studies core teacher who uses a lot of role play and drama, PERFECT. She also signed Cait up for Alg A which was agreed to by the whole IEP team because of Cait's challenges in math. She also made sure Cait had her 1st period so that she could help her organize and get started on her day. She felt that 1st period was definitely the best help for cait. She also paired her up with some other kids so she could still have aide support but without it seeming like a 1:1 thing (she does still need the aide, even Cait admitted it).
WELL the friggen principal decides to override the teachers schedule cause Cait's math test scores were "proficient" (She tests well but can't do the day to day stuff) and put her in Alg B and changed her whole friggen day around. Different language arts core teacher, Her support class 7th period....friggen grrrrrr. I have no clue if she is grouped with other kids from Mrs. R. or not.
So I went to the office. they kept the schedule but didn't know if it could be changed. Told me the principal had "unlocked" a lot of that teachers kids schedules and changed them around. And to let the teacher know to stop in the next day she was there and see if she could change it.
I am so mad at that principal. He has NEVER met Cait, he has NEVER been to an IEP meeting, he has no idea about her or her needs but decides to override the teacher who has had her for 2 years and is finally getting it based on one standardized score. No doubt to make his friggen school look better.
DH was pretty pissed to. Miss Cait was pretty easy going and was willing to give the new schedule a try.

I am guessing that none of the stuff he messed up is in the IEP, right?

The Algebra A vs Algebra B may actually be in the IEP. The rest was just the teacher being proactive and doing her job which I appreciated. I am pretty sure the math thing was though because we discussed it at her yearly at length and I thought it was put in there.
Mrs. R goes into school a few weeks early each year to make schedules for her kids in advance. It is supposed to be kind of the priority. These are all day class kids who are fully included in classes with aides. She puts in her schedule recomendations into the computer and locks them and then the rest are done. There is no guarantee what she requests will be done for sure but it is pretty sure and they should stick pretty close to it.
The secretary mentioned (perhaps a bit out of turn) that the principal did this to a lot of her kids this year. The asst. prin asked "Arent' Mrs. R's schedules supposed to be locked" and she said "Mr. Pack over rode a lot of them and changed them. He changed Caits because he thought her scores were too high for Alg. A" I told them this was not only the recomendation of Mrs. R but the Math teacher from last year. They can't do anything until mrs. R is back next week.
She is going to be pissed and rightfully so.
The thing is, our school is obsessed with high scores and all that. It is a richer end of town. They could give a rats patooey about special education and those student needs. What Dr. Pack saw was a bunch of kids with very high scores (cause some aspies are just smart as heck and test well but can't do the school thing without stressing) and all he is thinking is how the school looks and ratings. He does not care what those kids needs are or their best interest.
This is the same principal that stuck this same class of Aspie kids in the dressing room (Green Room) and calls it a classroom.

This guy is a bully.
I'd confirm the IEP thing and if it is true, bypass the school completely and go to district level. You'll probably end up doing that anyway, so why wait?

Well, I am going to stick with my hopes that the teacher can do it or can give me more info on these new teachers and if Cait can succeed in those classes with that schedule. If not I will go up the special ed ladder to the program specialist.
Unfortunately the regular district level in our district is worse currently. We have a new superintendent who's sole concern is getting our scores proficient. I have addressed the Green Room thing with a school board person and it was of no use.
I am actually considering calling this news program nearby that does stories on this kind of thing.

Do it!
((((HUGS)))) Just when you think it's all settled and taken care of some schmuck comes in and changes the whole thing.
I'm dreading the start of the school year. I called to get an appointment for Weston to go walk through the school so we could start the social stories/role playing for how Weston will handle what to do when. The assistant principal that we met last spring is no longer at the school and so we'll meet a new on on Monday. I really, really hope he read all the notes in the file and has some plan when we go in on Monday-- otherwise it'll be a wasted trip and a poor start to the year.
