I had to write my first email to the teacher today aabout an issue and school doesn't start for another week.

We went to pick up Cait's schedule today. I had talked to her teacher earlier in the week and I knew that she had signed Cait up for this one fabulous language arts/social studies core teacher who uses a lot of role play and drama, PERFECT. She also signed Cait up for Alg A which was agreed to by the whole IEP team because of Cait's challenges in math. She also made sure Cait had her 1st period so that she could help her organize and get started on her day. She felt that 1st period was definitely the best help for cait. She also paired her up with some other kids so she could still have aide support but without it seeming like a 1:1 thing (she does still need the aide, even Cait admitted it).

WELL the friggen principal decides to override the teachers schedule cause Cait's math test scores were "proficient" (She tests well but can't do the day to day stuff) and put her in Alg B and changed her whole friggen day around. Different language arts core teacher, Her support class 7th period....friggen grrrrrr. I have no clue if she is grouped with other kids from Mrs. R. or not.

So I went to the office. they kept the schedule but didn't know if it could be changed. Told me the principal had "unlocked" a lot of that teachers kids schedules and changed them around. And to let the teacher know to stop in the next day she was there and see if she could change it.

I am so mad at that principal. He has NEVER met Cait, he has NEVER been to an IEP meeting, he has no idea about her or her needs but decides to override the teacher who has had her for 2 years and is finally getting it based on one standardized score. No doubt to make his friggen school look better.

DH was pretty pissed to. Miss Cait was pretty easy going and was willing to give the new schedule a try.

I'm with Candes on calling the news station.

This really sucks that you are having to deal with such huge issues, being weeks away from the start of school.

Just curious...

no, I am working for a different school district about 2 town over (20 minute commute).

I applied for this district originally but really, they have some big issues lately. There is a past post about news articles and surveys that were rated by people in nebraska as screening tools for new hires and to ditch teachers that weren't tenured yet. I don't think I made it past the screener but after the articles, other issues around our new superintendent, and talking to a few friends who are district teachers I decided to look elsewhere. Cait's language arts teacher from last year (who really seemed pretty darn good, I mean not my favorite but she was not bad. She could have been my favorite but she was out on medical for 1/2 the year) She was ditched due to this online survey and can't reapply in our district for 2 years.

HOnest, I have talked to a lot of teachers. Being a teacher myself I have become very friendly with many of my kids teachers and I know teachers through other places like church, bunco. Right now the moral is incredibly low in our district and there are LOADS of concerns by the teachers throughout. Our NCLB scores are too low and the new superintendent who has driven other districts to bankruptsy trying to get scores up through a very narrow method of lindamood bell. I lOVE LMB BUT there is much more to running a district then spending millions on that.

Oh, you guys will love this. The preschool program in our home district I have heard has adopted a closed door policy. Parents cannot visit. GRRRR. That is awful. One of the first questions in my district was how I felt about parent visitors. I said I welcome them and they said that is good cause they have an open door policy. I am trying to figure out a way for my friend, Christine, to get her DS dd in my district in 2 years when she turns 3.

Anyway, long story short. No I don't work for that district and I think it is a blessing. I wanted to initially but I am glad I am not.
