I'm trying to figure out if this is an Aspie-thing or just a kid-thing.

And here I thought Hayden was the only kid in the world obsessed with hangers!

If I had to make an uneducated, yet BTDT experienced guess, I'd say it's an Aspie thing. I have been stunned at some of the unusual obsessions our spectrum kiddos engage in. While Claire isn't into hangers, per se, she has gone to the trouble of naming just about every inanimate object in the house. The hairdryer is "Suzy" the curling iron is "Carly" and the vacuums are "Sassy and Chloe the Vacuum Cleaner Brothers". (Sounds like a bad Vaudville act, doesn't it?)

For whatever reason, the hangers (and/or the shirt) give him comfort. In the grand scheme of Aspie obsessions, I'd say it's a pretty parent-friendly one!

What I wouldn't give for a blankie obsession in our home?!?!?

hmmm, have you mentioned to Claire that she gave the "brothers" girls names....j/k

I couldn't resist.

I am going with an aspie type thing too, though I feel it is one of the better ones. OK so they may get obsessed and play with things that aren't exactly typical but I think it shows that they are creative thinkers who march to their own drummers. Long live "Friendy's" and thinking outside the box.

OH MAN! That blankie thing SOOOOOO reminds me of Mike. He has this burping diaper he carried EVERYWHERE until he was at least 3-4. He went for the longest time where he had to carry a small toy with it in a certain way. Usually a toy chicken leg or french fry. We figured out months later that he was copying a show with the chicken leg part (a microphone).

But the blanket was a constant from birth until at least then. heck my dh hid one and kept it (we bought many copies of the same thing). He thought Mike would get married with the darn thing.

Recently we told Mike about it and showed him. It has mysteriously disappeared. I think he has it squirrelled away in his room somewhere to keep when he needs it.
