You got me you evil evil girl. I thought for sure it was something serious! YOU HAD ME WORRIED! I will deal with you later!

Renee here, soon to turn....ugh 39 (for the first time with many more to follow, lol). I am in sunny southern California with my DH of 15 years and 4 kiddos. My oldest 2 are both ASD and who are bring me here. My youngest has some spectrum-esque quirks but appears to just have sensory integration disorder and a very independent minded attitude!

I used to specialize in teaching with people with autism from before the kids were born in EI and in residential settings. I have just gone back to school to finish my credential for california since I have not worked in 7 years. My DH is also an autism specialist so this is all in the family.

Cait is 12 and one of the few girl Aspies around that I know. She was diagnosed PDD-NOS at 4 (due to language delay) and Aspergers at 7. I know, it isn't right according to the DSM but she is about as typical an Aspie as they come. She now has a diagnosis of Aspergers and epilepsy. She is in a middle school AS program where she is mainstreamed for all academics and band and has a variety of supports. She has been involved in theraputic horsemanship for 7 years now and volunteers 8 hours every week there as well as riding for them. Her "area of interest" is anything animal but she is also a whiz at computers and tech stuff. Enough that she leaves mom in the DUST! She is a WAY fun kid to have around. She has grown up hugely in the past year as she has gotten past the main part of puberty and I am just enjoying the heck out of her.

Mike is nearly 11 (in a month) and is also ASD. He was just re-evaled and waiting to get the paperwork but it looks like the dx of record will be autistic (high functioning). He is extraordinarily bright but a challenge. He is about the worlds sweetest young man and is GREAT at learning new routines and chores so he is often mom's helper. He is in 5th grade and has been in a special ed class since 3rd grade. This year he is mainstreamed with his 1:1 aide for about 1/2-2/3 of the day and he has a 1:1 for the entire day including recess, etc. We are not yet sure exactly what he will be doing for middle school yet. It is possible he will go to a special school for kids with special needs. Middle school scares me with him because he has made such huge progress in his current placement and I am so scared of losing that next year.

I have a 8yo, Emily who is my one true NT and a sweet heart. She has some sensory issues and had some vision processing issues but it all has been resolved through stuff at home. Her biggest challenge is being the one NT sib in a family of quirkiness.

And my youngest, Dave, is 6yo and a future entrapreneur. He has a host of sensory issues and has had a provisional PDD dx when he was younger but as he has grown it really doesn't seem applicable for him. He has some AS type quirks but he is missing that main deficit in the social area. He just "gets" other people too well to be on the spectrum.

Thats us.

Ha, ha. :)

I'm Annette, 35, in British Columbia Canada, been married for 18 years. Before I had my son I was a self-employed contracter, little ole me help built houses, I did that for 10 years. My husband is an engineer.

Our son is 5, 6 in March. Just this last December was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. He's congnitively normal and is in the 95th percentile with language so I do consider him Asperger's. He communicates fairly well these days. Most of his problems are sensitivities and stimming.

I'm Robin.

I have the sweetest, most wonderful 6-year-old Henry. He is a not-yet-diagnosed Aspie. As of today, his interests include writing and rewriting the tv schedule for whatever channel he happens to choose at the moment. He is also memorizing The Good Night Show from the Sprout Channel. Because he is doing fine academically at school, they refused to do any testing. He is in 1st grade. Oh, he has social issues--as in he isn't social--and self-help delays.

I also have an almost 18-month-old Mark. So far, he seems NT.

Dh Glen is a bit OCD-ish with anxiety issues.

We all live in a suburb of Memphis, TN.

Hi
My name is Nora I am 32 and live in Pittsburgh Pa.
I have been married for 6 years and have a son who's 3 1/2 with PDD
We just go dx'ed last April
He recieves help thru a head start preschool (he had inhome intervention before 3)
and he gets out patient speech and OT

He has made incredible leaps and bounds. I feel he'll be an Aspie. He's speech delayed but his quirks point to Aspie.

I am newly pregnant and my DH is really nervous over our new baby.
I on the other hand am very happy. I wanted a sib for my DS. I honestly feel that this new baby is going to help my DS with building relationships.

I'm Teri (33) from SW Michigan - single mom to 3 boys.

Josh (10 yo) is being evaluated for Asperger's by the school district. He has executive processing disorders, motor delays and social skills issues.

William (7 yo) is NT and a total sweetie. He lives with his father and therefore misses out on a lot of the chaos around here.

Ryan (4 yo) is next in line for an eval as soon as I get Josh squared away. He's taken to hanging upside down off the couch, spinning round and round in the living room, and utterly losing it at the grocery store or anywhere else that there are too many people/bright lights/sounds.

Man oh man, Paula...how I adore you!

I'm Amy, living in Central Illinois for the time being- but DH and I are dreamin' of making a major move in the not-so-distant future. I'm "somewhere in my 30's" and that's about as close as I'm going to get to giving my age. :-) DH and I have been married for 13 years, and he is a self-admitted undiagnosed Aspie. We have three children...but aren't ruling increasing the count.

Our oldest is 9 and he was dx'd with PDD-NOS at 4 which became Asperger's when he was 7. He's incredibly sweet, smart as all get out (especially in math and science-surprise!) and is truly a joy 99.9% of the time. His major obsession is video games.

Our middle child is an amazing 7 year old girl, who is truly NT. She's is an angel on earth if ever there was one. Much like her brother, she is incredibly smart. (Smarter than we realized, in fact.) She is unusually insightful, pure of spirit...I am in awe of her every single day.

Our youngest is affectionately known as *Baby Bear*. She is 6 years old (1st grade) and her diagnosis is simply "autism". She struggles with just about all of the things spectrum kiddos deal with. Her language is significantly delayed, although we've seen incredible improvements since forcing the district to mainstream her. She also has tons of sensory issues, including a ridiculously self-limited diet. From a mother's standpoint, my biggest concern is her inability to sense danger. But she also lacks any and all social skills and is, in general, oblivious to the fact that anything she does can affect those around her. Her biggest obsession is books. She also happens to be cuter than cute and sweeter and sweet.

I am currently unemployed, but spend lots of time volunteering at school. I also love scrapbooking, reading, golfing and I try to do at least one community theatre production a year. I've been acting for 22+ years now, long before I met my hubby, so it will always be my first love. :-)

My name is Alexis. We're currently stationed in Texas but hopefully will be moving soon. Victor is my aspie kid. He is now 10.5 . We just got his diagnosis a month before he turned 10. So many things that he used to do drove us crazy that he just couldn't "get it" now make sense and we try different approaches. His current obessions are pokemon and manners and as always dinosaurs. He gets very upset when people do not say please and thank you, yes ma'am, no sir etc.. Victor is an incredibly bright child with a wonderful sense of humor.

Victor has one little sister Bryanna who is 9. She tends to spend a lot of time frustrated because the kids in the neighborhood like to play ding dong ditch, or just leave a kid behind and go do something different. I won't let Bryanna do either and she takes it out of Vic because he's usually the kid that's getting left behind. It's really not fair that she has to be understanding that some things her big brother can't help but she does a wonderful job with it. I call her the younger BIG sister. She does wonders with getting Victor to work at playing with the kids and also helps him realize when he's losing it.

I am currently a full time student and full time mom with a husband overseas til the end of May. I am studying to get my BA in Linguistics altho the more I deal with Vic and Bry's school, I am considering changing my major to criminal justice. I am 30 credits toward my AA and slowing but surely working toward that BA. What's funny is I never considered liguistics as a major. I took one semester of Spanish because I got tired of my husband's family speaking Spanish around me and me not knowing what was said.

I think that about wraps it up for our brood.

TeeHee, you are funny Paula!

I'm Molly from North San Diego area. My dh, David is a proud undx Aspie. He is a financial advisor but his degrees and special interests are rocks and maps(geology). We have been married 9 years. I have a BS in Child Development and last worked for a school district before & after school program. I am a SAHM now.

Our ds, Liam was recently diagnosed 3 weeks ago at age 4 years 7 months. He is officially PDD-NOS and has many Asperger's traits but did not quite fit all and not quite all of the time. He has had early intervention since 17 months due to hypotonia (low muscle tone) and sensory integration dysfuntion. He attends a mixed special ed preschool 4x a week for 3 hours. He is extremely bright and his language skills are very good(although he is showing early signs of pragmatic language weaknesses). He has self-help delays, very clumsy, and has become a sensory seeker (opposite of when he was a little guy). He is not at all concerned about safety and runs from us all the time out in public. He has always been high maintenence but so very cute, funny and loving!

Molly
