this is the email I got right after school today. From Weston's teacher (he's 10 in 5th grade, fully mainstreamed no aide or para, Dx ASD)
"Weston asked to go to the nurse again right before math class. I told
him to try to make it because we had Continental Math competition today
and I did not want him to miss it. He asked again and I tried to make
him stay. He started moaning at his seat and distracting others so I
let him go. He missed the Continental Math activity. I hope that he
will feel better and get back on track soon. Again, I think we need to
work together to try to keep him more organized. Thanks again."
I replied w/ an email after trying to get him to clean out his backpack tonight. I have just exchanged email w/ the OT but she's supposed to ck in w/ him and his teachers sometime soon and see what can be done. But apparently from this email his teacher just doesn't GET IT! it doesn't matter that he can do all the math problems in his head or that he can recite any thing he's read to you-- he can't communicate effectively and he's overwhelmed. It's not going to just 'get back on track soon'. And obviously he's not staying organized or keeping up w/ homework because I don't sign his planner daily and clean out the backpack for him. ;-P
sigh,
Betsy

Awwwww Betsy, I had a really tough day with a teacher too. All I can do is give you a {{{hug}}} as I don't have my son's IEP in place yet.
