Just got back from Disneyland.....

We went for two days. Older child with ASD, Younger one with Tourettes... and ASD ( his pys says ASD but I'm not convinced...). Both with OCD.

The first day Nic ticced, but I ignored other people when he gritted his teeth and started yelling farts, farts, farts out of control. He licked his lips and fingers the whole time. Which is a tic.

We went on the haunted house ride and Nic Yelled out odd noises during the ride, but no one noticed since it was a ride.

We went on Star Tours and had to wait in line ( we went to the town center and showed our kids disability's and got a guess pass) but that doesn't put you in front of the line.

They have the metal posts with the ropes and my older son (Chris - ASD) started rubbing his head over and over on the post, counting how many times his head hit this post. I counted how many times he hit this post with his face. Softly of course, but I counted.

At one point I had to take a walk with my youngest with tourettes at the shuttle ride, at the hotel. because I could tell he was ticcing. We walked thru the parking lot and he let loose with bad words and body parts lol. We had one person stair at us, but oh well who cares. I told my son to just let it out.

Chris perservered on the money we were giving him to spend. Tony tried to tell him we were giving him and his bro 20 bucks the first night, but chris found something for something for 30 bucks and perservered. I said Tony, we need to go back to the hotel and take a break at the pool. We did this and they relaxed, and went back to dl and had fun...

The next day we forgot to take that break and life went to he//. Nic was hungry and thew into a rage, a big rage to wear he lost control in the room and attacked me.

I got threw it, but I felt bad as my child described himself as being bad. My son isn't bad, he just makes the wrong decissions....

I held him and said "you know there's nothing you can do that will ever make me not love you"......

I wanted my boys to know there's nothing they can do to loose my love. They can do things to piss me off, but in the long run, they can't do anything to loose my love.

Anyway we made it, and our boys had a great time, and my 20 yr old dd came over to take care of our animals and even cleaned my kitchen and mopped my floor. What a great kid huh????!!!!

Hi Lainie!
It sounds like the trip overall went well! Yes there were moments, but at a place like Disneyland, you can get away with the noises and behavior. The last time I went to DL was when I was 30 and I can remember LOTS of kids acting up. There is alot of stimulation even for kids without issues! As long as you and your boys had fun, that is all that matters. It sounds like it something they will remember :).

My GAWD you're brave! I am incredibly proud of you, and incredibly envious...no way would I have the strength to get through a trip like that, let alone to ensure that it was successful!

KUDOS TO YOU, LAINIE!

Awwww thanks guys. The one lesson I learned was, no matter what, take that break!!! LOL. We were big dummies the next day to push it like we did.

But overall, we had fun. And thats what matters right? :) I'm so glad we got threw it, and the boys have great memories with this trip.

Lainie,
I give you so much praise for taking the kids. My little one is only gonna be 4 this yr and we'd have to do Disney World (east coast).
We are purposlly waiting and definatley would need to take breaks for that very reason of "the nuclear meltdown" LOL............

You are a great mom---kudos

You know Debbie, I thought of you when I thought about the break the first day. I think I remember you typed it out, and when Chris started perservering.... I thought hmmmmm he needs a break. So did Nic.

Luckily they were fine with it because we were going to go back to swim, and then we ate dinner and went back.

The second day, well I was a dufus to let us go till 6 without the break. I forgot Nic didn't eat much breakfast (he had a tummy ache) and we ate alot of snacks during the day. I thought he was okay, but boy did I find out different when we got back to the hotel. We couldn't even go back, but it was okay as we all spent the evening in the pool and hot tub once we ate and he calmed down.

All of us were getting up at 6 in the morning (which were definetly not used to at home)to eat breakfast and get to the park by 8 and so combined with all of the walking and sensory stuff it was just over-load.

Anyway, I think I have learned my lesson lol. Breaks, Breaks, Breaks!!!!
