Altho I still don't know if he qualify's for services yet (we still have to have a formal staff meeting with the Center) I was able to obtain a copy of Chris's Report early.

I'm sitting here shaking like a leaf lol. I just took half a Xanax, so hopefully it will kick in here soon.

He has a slew of dx-s, which are.....

Autistic Disorder
Learning Disorder NOS
Impulse Control Disorder NOS
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Combined Type

Now I don't know why reading this report is so weird to me, I mean he was dx-d by his Physciatrist last June, but I guess really seeing it from another doc from the Regional Center and of course seeing the A word, plus the other things is making my head spin.

I'm so glad tho that it shows the LD, because you all know how I am fighting the school who say "Oh he's just fine...."

Now I just gotta figure out how to approach the school with this report.

(((((((((((Lainie)))))))))),

I feel so bad for you. There is something about seeing all this stuff written down about your baby that makes a mom feel like her heart is being ripped out.

The good news is that the school will HAVE to take notice after that.

Well, at least now you have it in writing.

As far as how to use it to handle the school, I'm not the best person to ask. BUT, I would recommend that you go out post-haste and make lots of photo copies of it. Lots. That way when someone wants to to 'see it for themselves' you don't have to even take the original out of the hosue.

A blessing and a curse. The information that is needed and knew was coming and yet hard to look at at the same time. It does sound like the doctor was thorough and this is certainly going to help him with school supports.

No worries. He will qualify. If he was not going to qualify they wouldn't have put "autistic disorder". They are rather funny about whether they qualify PDD-NOS or Aspergers so his listing that means to me that he will qualify.

The autistic disorder does not change Chris, btw. Cait and Mike are both diagnosed "Autistic" according to regional center and the schools. With doctors it often is Aspergers depending on when and who.

Makes you want to take this report and STICK IT in the face of those other lame brains doesn't it. maybe just a little? I think you should demand a refund from that one knucklehead.

I remember fighting to Josh certain services. Not too long ago. I got quite a bit before the "offical" diagnosis. But the one service eluding us was the inclusion classroom The CIP class. The one with the extra teacher(special ed)right up till 5th grade. I knew it was a good placement for him. But we wasn't "regular' kid enough to go in that way, where the light bulb would have been turned on alot sooner. And Other Health issues didn't qualify him either. I think everybody knew Josh belonged there but never truly could find a liegitamate reason to put Josh into a classroom with limited spots I guess.

I had the OT, the social skills, extra help, Summer school help etc. But Josh was not resource room material either./ Getting ADHD didn't help either. Till I figured out the ASD.
Got Josh tested on my own and All of a sudden I had a kid with Asperger's Syndrome, a child on the Autisitc Spectrum. In many ways a sigh of relief, others realizing i wasn't the crazy one and that something wasn't right with JOsh. Even the Developmental Ped had her ahaa moment. It crossed her mind too. Josh diodn't always fit the pieces of the puzzle. But once we put the puzzle together
We all had our ahha moment

The biggest Ahha moment. Was showing the school district Josh's "offical" dx of ASD and suddenly the kid qualitfied for the CIP/inclusion classroom. And a month after school started last year (our 1st in that set up) I changed Josh's classification to Autism. And suddenly we got a Autism consultant(well it took awhile because someone forgot to give her the paperwork) But Josh's behavior never truly changed, but suddenly it made sense.

Now I just need teachers who truly get him and realize that he is never going to be organized enough to bring home everything. That he needs someone to check his backpack and make sure homework comes home, The positive thing about Junior High, I think everything can be found online. I will find out more at open house. The consultant's office is rigth in that building and hopefully this year will be better than last.

Thanks Everyone!!! I ended up taking a nap at 6 and woke up at 8:30. I sure hope I can sleep tonite lol.

I guess I was more surprised to see the Autistic Disorder versus the Aspergers/PDD-NOS. But then again having the doc say Autistic Disorder will help get services thru the Regional Center (like you said Renee). And really, it's all the same....

It was just kinda weird. It wasn't that weird to see the Pys do it, because well frankly he didn't perform all these tests and such.

Anyway, Now I am great, because how can the school deny this now??? I mean I have one doc who said the LD and Autistic Traits, and another doc thats say ASD and another that said LD and AD.

So, it's actually a blessing to have the final DX. Hopefully I can get him a much needed aide.
