Further development : Lawyer Rocks!

Well, we sure like her. She's everything her reputation promises and then some, and we are sighing greatly with relief.

She said under no circumstances could we go to BOE review without a lawyer, and she is free to come with us that day! so we don't even have to go with one of her associates, which would have been fine, too, but we feel so protected. She is the one with the scary reputation, hooray! Oh, and she's so nice, worked in NYC special ed as behavioral counselor, is a special ed mom.

She is in complete agreement with us on our assessment that a Day Treatment program is a CRAZY recommendation for our gifted, high-sensory boy and she is lining up who and what we need to bring to prove this immediately. She thinks we will get home interim plan of tutoring, OT, speech, try for extra OT with How Does your Engine Run? program, social skills programming and/or RDI consultant. We will let school off the hook, unless they try pushing for Day Treatment. We suspect they won't if we are pulling him easily.

I am going to have a little hard time being civil to school reps while there. I am threatening to not speak much, let lawyer and dh do the talking, but somehow my dh doesn't believe that is a possibility... hmmmmm...

We will bring Malcolm's psychotherapist to the meeting, also letters from psychiatrist, principal of ASD previous school, theatre summer camp director, his Little League photos, pictures of him with his friends, his horse, in his Tae Kwondo uniform. I want to force them all to watch DVD of his acting and singing this summer, but lawyer laughingly says "no", I suspect she didn't think I was serious!!!

Next Friday, gals. Should be interesting.

Thats great sara! You will need a lawyer because they are a bunch of morons in the DOE and make up their own policies and laws. My impartials are at the end of September and the start of October. They hired a lawyer for the district. My advocate says that they have retained lawyers in all of the regions. I wish you luck at the meeting , the new resolution meeting was a complete waste of my time not one issue was resolved. We will be at home the same as you on an interim service plan that will serve as our pendency until the issues are resolved. I cannot retain a lawyer because they charge for each case seperate and it's just too much money. But I intend to Kick their a$$ anyway. since they cannot offer FAPE to my boys.
