Liam has been licking his lips pretty much all the time for the last two weeks or so.

Yes, it is a form of stimming. My son also does this to the point where his lips are chapped and bleed. His mouth always looks dirty because of being so chapped.

Mike does this on and off. Usually it starts when his lips are dry and then it becomes and obsession or stim. It gets so bad the whole area around his mouth will be red, sore, etc. Sometiems to his chin.

I have found as soon as he starts I put some sort of chapstick or something on it and it helps. First he hates the taste so he licks less and also it helps sooth what ever is bugging him. The early I catch it in the cycle the better.

i made the mistake of putting chapstick on his lips that tasted good. I need to get some medicated kind that he won't want to lick. My son's lips/mouth looks so bad. People probably think it is dirt.

How about plain petrolium jelly? Mike HATES the medicated kind as he swears it hurts and smells so I can never get that on him. But the vaseline is the one thing I can get on him and it works well and tastes pretty icky.

Hi my now 13 yr. old Aspie dd used to do this ALL the time when she was 8-10 yrs. old. I used to wonder if it was stimming. She used to have her entire lip area red & chapped. She grew out of this & went to knuckle cracking. She does this when she is stressed. I've tried stress balls w/ her & this seemed to help. I'm glad to hear other kids do this. Take care, Mary Ann
